Shared on Wed, 05/02/2007 - 10:21After a full year on the market we sold our house. Wife and I are now houseless. Which has its pluses and minuses. We have some cash in the bank, but we have no idea how the next couple of weeks are going to work out.
We put an offer in on a house about a month ago. Its a bit over 20 years old and needs some updating, new carpet, new kitchen, etc. It was on the market for about 9 months and is owned by a relocation company. The purchase and sale agreement took an extra week because of the fact that when dealing with a re-lo company they just take longer to respond. This in turn, held up the inspection.
Now we knew that there were going to be issues discovered by the inspection. The roof for one was questionable as to whether it would pass. Well there is extensive amount of mold in the attic/roof so that needs to be replaced. There is also a part of the house "bumped out" over the foundation that is very soft and would also need to be replaced. Lastly there is a door in the sunroom that is stuck. Most likely another moisture issue where the wood expanded such that the door no longer opened.
Sure we could just walk away from this house with no skin off our backs, but we like the house and more importantly the location so we're willing to ride this out to see what kind of concession the re-lo company is willing to make.
Any guesses as to the total costs the estimate for the repairs on our side?
