Wisdom of Kids

My son has all kinds of wisdom.  Here are 3 examples:

1. I'm playing Fight Night 3 with my son the other day and I'm having trouble picking a character.  I usually play at least 1 weight class lower because he's 5 and if I didn't, I could probably end the fight in the first round.  So I switch off of De La Hoya to go to Corrales, which is 2 or 3 weight classes below his custom Light Heavyweight.  After I switch, he says "Did you decide not to be him because he has a spanish name?"  I'm floored by this and go into this long dialog about how Oscar De La Hoya won the gold medal for the US in the olympics and how even if people might have different kinds of names that if they come here and work hard, they can be Americans and that anyone born here is an American no matter where their parents were born.  Sometime in the middle of all this I'm hearing the Battle Hymn of the Republic in my head.  Eventually I find out that there's a kid in his class that been spouting crap about how everyone with a non-american name should go home and how my son thinks this kid's a jerk and he doesn't want to play with him.  Wow, couldn't have said it better myself, son.

2. About 1 minute into our first fight, my son starts throwing headbutts.  I warn him that he's going to lose if he keeps it up.  He doesn't listen and gets DQ'd.  I explain the whole illegal blow thing to him and he thinks for a second and says "If it's illegal, why did they make a button for it?"

3.  We're eating on our back porch.  Steaks, potatos, vegetables and 70 degree weather.  Our back yard overlooks a park with a small lake/pond.  There are often ducks, geese and egrets flying around.  We're all enjoying dinner and my son says "This is like a restaurant, but we're not crowded in, and we're outside.  I really like this."  It's little moments like this that make the frustration of being a parent worth it.
