360 RPG Greatness in Mass Effect

Bioware has updated (FINALLY) their Mass Effect site finaly getting rid of that rather bland flash heavy site with a more standard web site http://masseffect.bioware.com/

This is one game I really want to dive into, especially the concept of a trilogy with downloadable game content and a game that really is fully open ended and almost unlimited gameplay possibilities.

I have been a Bioware fan since Shattered Steel and continuing on with Baldurs Gate, MDK 2, Jade Empire and the best Xbox RPG Knights of the Old Republic.

If KotoR and Jade Empire are any indication, Bioware has their console act together and will hopefully give us a game that takes more then a few hours to finish (like Jade Empire was dramatically way to short and KotoR could have went to 200 hours :D )

Bioware is doing some things right for their web site that other companies need to do, having multiple downloads for movies (different qualities, including 720p HD THANK YOU), wall paper, avatars, and more. Nice to see other then a extreme low quality and a meh medium quality trailer. They also have detailed information about the game and aspects of the game, something most game companies only glaze over.

I hope that Bioware takes their time to finish the game, make it awsome, I dont mind waiting for greatness, we dont need a KotoR 2 which was certainly half baked and released months early, even tho it was not technically Obsidians fault (Obsidian made KotoR 2) Lucasarts wanted it out before christmas and messed it up, its still a good game even if half baked

KotoR2 was farmed out to another developer and was not made by Bioware. I am really looking forward to Mass Effect as well.

Biggest example of why games should never be rushed or downright cut-off and shipped - Kotor 2 Then LA dropped Kotor3 pre-production because 2 didn't do that well *rolls eyes*. All sorts of speculation on how the game was supposed to go through hidden files in the PC version. Here are a few videos of parts that were cut. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzBgnzwBv7I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IobIhctxRXg

Bioware should put their muscle behind doing a KotoR 3, or hell re-do 2 and add it to 3. I keep wondering if Lucasarts is letting Bioware do a KotoR MMO since they dropped their support from Star Wars Galaxies, then a couple of weeks later Bioware annouced they were doing a MMO.

I would like to see Obsidian get that treatment for Kotor 2 and 3. Regardless, LA really needs to sort out the mess they made of Kotor. I was thinking Bioware is going to turn Dragonage into an MMO and the Texas studio does it while they continue Mass Effect in Canada. Just a guess.

One of the Dr's said Dragon Age is one of the four games being worked on in Edmonton. Dragon Age could be a wicked MMO tho for sure. Its to bad my computer probably wont run it. I hope the MMO is a game that destroys World of Warcraft in sales and popularity. Tall order, but I can dream

Bioware makes more money on their games when it their own intellectual property. They are good enough that they don't need the Star Wars Universe, or Dungeons & Dragons, or any one else's backstory to sell games. KotOR, unfortunately, was a one-time gem.

I wouldnt say its a one time gem, if Lucas wanted the game to be done again and offered the deal to Bioware and it was tasty for them, they would do it. Its a guarenteed sell. Actually with their own IP they usually do make more money, but sometimes because of the IP they can run with it and make more money. Star Wars is a huge licence, and will sell tons of games much of the time. 500k sales of a new IP is good, but 5 million in sales of a known IP is better.
