Conversation from this weekend..... what game would you redo/remake/revitalize?

So a ton of us talked about this on the weekend...

Question - if you were put in charge to re-vitalize or re-invent a old game property, what game would it be, for what platform (PC, Handheld, Console(s)) and what changes would you make?

Some people came up with some seriously insane ideas and some were good, bad and WTF?!

My answer was simple.

I would remake Crusader No Remorse in 3rd person on a console (360), keeping the violence level high, environmental damage to the extreme and use the stop and pop game play that Gears of War gave us but have the cover destructable so you can not just hide for to long.

Also.. I would love to take Wing Commander and create a new game, keeping the Space Opera story/feel, mixed with some major controls for your ship (think the robot mech game for Xbox by Capcom but also have it work with a standard controller), full Multiplayer, and do a Xbox/PC version. Screw the PS3 and lack of rumble.

What would you do? Tons of great games sitting collecting dust.. what needs a true next gen experience life line?

Sweet callback to Crusader: No Remorse, I played through that game completely back in the old Windows 95 - trick DOS games to run natively days. Crusader No Regret was a decent sequel too. Lose the isometric perspective, keep the destruction and the ability to set guys on fire and watch them run flaming through the offices. Oh, and leave the glass cube walls, they were so much fun to shoot out and create new "doors".

Altered Beast would be cool.

Most of the stuff I want to see is getting made under a different title. Like Bioshock. Force Unleashed (what a stupid title...why don't they call it "Faws powa FTW!") could end up being the next Jedi Knight.

Crusader was definitely cool. What I'd really like to see with today's technology and maybe with the Wii's control is Magic Carpet.

I do not recall the name of the game but I played it in high school on the Macs. I think it was a star trek knock off. You have the three races, romulan, humans, and klingon. Each ship type had it's pros and cons. Like klingon could cloak but then they could only use short range sensors (or something like that). It was multiplayer and the goal was to detroy the other players. You have photon torpedos and phasers. I think you had to take down the shields to fire photons. The ships wrapped around the screen edge like asteroids. There were star bases to reload on supplies. Black holes to create local gravity fields. The cool thing about the game was it was really simple but was fun multiplayer. Games I'd like to see ported are Warpath (one of the first I played over null modem) http://www.synthetic-reality.com/warpath.htm Shattered Steel (one of the best mech games ever made, probably second after mechwarrior 2) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shattered_Steel And Treadmarks (tank racing game) http://www.ldagames.com/treadmarks/ Shattered Steel and Treadmarks have destructible terrain. Setting off a nuke in Shatter Steel was the highlight of multiplayer. You left a huge crater in the ground. Treadmarks have weapons hat create terrain or detroy it. The cool this was is was free roaming. all you had to do was get form checkpoint to check point whatever way you thought was best. Which after a 15 minute match the terrain becomes hard to navigate and your path will change.

personally I'd love to see a Diablo(Blizzard.net) hit a console,.. I'd like to have a larger community in a RPG environment,... I have played Oblivion once, and that would be great multiplayer. just my thought...

A rejuvenation of the Carmageddon series would be awesome on next gen. create an entire city in sandbox style and set up some really pointless checkpoints and let us rampage through the streets. Novadrome was certainly not Carmageddon, more of a de-evolution. Something you'd expect the first generation would be and it would get more violent from there, but alas. I'm also thinking that creating some XBLA arcade games that bring back the Rock 'n' Roll Racing and Sunset Riders games. Oh yeah, and remaking the Interplay game Whiplash (the racing game, not the weird rabbit game) would be awesome. And Commander Keen....
