Sniper Elite will be the first of 10 games that I would like to see have a Next Generation make over with a full sequel or even make a similar game when a sequel just will not work. I will talk about how the graphics, physics, music, sound, game play, multiplayer and controls could get a next gen make over with out ruining the real treat the original game offered.

1945: World War II is drawing to a close and the Soviets and Nazi's are caught in a furious battle for Berlin. Taking the role of an American Sniper sent into the chaos of war-torn Berlin by the Secret Service, the player must complete a series of vitally important missions to thwart Soviet nuclear ambitions at the dawn of the Cold War.

That is the premise of a wonderful game that almost no one really played, most likely because it was another World War II era game among countless WWII games. This is a shame because it is a smart thinking mans game where run and gunning equals stupid death followed by stupid death.

Graphics - Beyond the normal higher resolution textures and more advanced models, this game could use more particle effects that are the norm in war games. With the constant battles, smoke as well as the after effects of a battle (fire, more debris, etc) would be an added bonus since the original game there really seemed a lack of these graphical touches.

The game would also benefit from larger zones with more detail in the zones, with more enemies and more friends, and more choices where to hide and snipe from, but these are also game play features.

Physics - the game has great bullet physics and really is where the game shines. Long range shots are difficult when dealing with breathing, gravity, wind and if you are lucky you are not being shot at. But more physics with cloth for clothing and tents, explosion physics for when you take out tanks and other exploding things. Death physics are great mixed with some amazing animations when you nail a head or kill shot, but we could see some more with bodies falling through windows, off of vehicles, etc.

Music - When will we see a WW2 game with WW2 era music that fits the scene.. Steven Speilberg did this in Private Ryan, in that scene just before the final German attack, it was right to the period, it sounded great, it was in French and it helped set the feel. While music in a sniper game wouldnt work in most causes, there are ambient sounds that can feel musical. Look at Doom 3, iD did this and it worked.

Sound - Take a page from the Call of Duty hand book on WW2 sounds. Battles are intense and crazy and they sound like it. Something that lacked from the original game, and really hurts it with many of the sounds, sounding like they came from a PS1 game.

Game Play - While the game has great game play, there are a few things that could make a next generation version truly next gen.
- build your own nest to snipe from, this would be more realistic and allow for some freedom.
- smoke grenades to give cover if you need to escape
- CO-OP game play, hope in / out, like GOW and use AI when not in COOP
- more ways in and out of an area, through windows, buildings, etc including sewers.. would be a huge job for each level but worth it
- Allow tweaking of weapons, something real snipers do

Multiplayer - CO-OP game play would be fantastic with someone covering you, taking two targets out at the same time and more. Please have it drop in and out CO-OP, this should be a norm for all games.

Controls - I have nothing really that could improve the controls, they are solid, they feel great, play great and really could not be improved.

Overall - If you have not played the game, rent or buy it, it is worth it. Even if you are tired of the WW2 genre, this is one game that really has you think your way through levels and doesn't get annoying with the same type of missions over and over.
