Thank you all for the nice private messages and emails and comments in regards to my last blog. I dont usually open my self up like that because, hey we all have had bad things happen to us, it doesnt make me special. I feel (maybe better) different this morning, and not sure what I will do. Nightmares in the night didnt help either, but I look at it like it was something or someone reminding me I need to be strong.. I am glad I did not drink last night. That would have been bad.

Solar Fury

I seriously feel like a total douche bag.

I have a small wee bit of funding (basically enough to buy pizza and beer) to do a game. But I thought I had full control, but while I do, the deal was for Solar Fury and not a puzzle game. This was brought to my attention in a phone call.. basically I would have to pay back what went into the game.

So the question is, do I use XNA and do a Single Player only game. Which is doable and something I would like. Do I use a different 3D engine and not do a 360 game at all just a PC game, not sure.  But damn what a idiot moment.. forgetting about the agreement..

Sorry Falelorn, I only glanced at your blog and saw... "I seriously feel like a total douche bag. I have a small wee " It was only after I had a good chuckle did I read the rest. Again, sorry.

Let me glean a little bit of advice as one who has thrown away many tens of thousands of dollars at a failed game company - Do it simple. Do it quick. Get it shipped. Pick up a pre-built engine (read: Torque, Orgre, etc..) Throw multiplayer out the window. The 360 question is a sticky one though. Space flight sims are a tiny market to begin with. But excluding XBLA you're making your target demo even smaller. That being said - dropping support for a console also simplifies your development quite a bit too.

Yeah, the complicated and neverending business model is overrated:) Have you read 'Dreaming in Code'? Dude, hope you are feeling better, c

@CofC - I havnt read it, but will check it out.. Thanks. @SGreth - actually this will be the 5th game I have worked on as a lead designer/producer, 2nd as a coder. I have Torque, but not happy with the way they do things, its a good FPS engine, but I find for other things bleh. I think in the end I will use XNA just because it will give me two things.. 1 - I always wanted to do a console game and 2 - I do not need to worry about dealing with a prebuilt engine that may not evolve with future needs. Ogre? You suggest Ogre? Lol I hate the community there. For 3D engines I really like TV3D, fast, powerful, fairly easy, great community, but its been stuck at 6.2 for so long with 6.5 in beta forever. Irrlicht is another favorite of mine.. and the A6 engine.
