SquareEnix are possibly the best Japanese RPG developers next to Level 5 and it is refreshing and a great time for a gamer if you love RPG's and own a Nintendo DS (you own one dont you??)

There are 3 big games are out now and are all going to be the big hand held RPGs which should satisfy those who hanker for a big bad RPG to play on the train, bus or where ever you get your hand held gaming in.

Final Fantasy III

The Good: Great-looking fully 3D visuals breathe new life and personality into an old game; job system helps add variety and depth to all of the combat; lengthy quest will keep you busy for hours and hours.
The Bad: 3D visuals could have been smoother, and the DS's top screen is barely used; game can feel punishing at times, partly due to the lack of save points.

My view - Fantastic Game and worth buying if you are a fan of great RPGs and the Final Fantasy Series. While not perfect it really shows what the DS is capable of and you will be sucked in for weeks on end.

Magical Starsign

The Good: Cute script manages to succeed with some good humor moments; diverse cast of characters and critters.
The Bad: Storyline is pretty bland despite the crazy cast; battle system is much more basic than its nested rock-paper-scissors structure suggests; worlds you'll visit are all distinct, but small, with random encounters padding them out.

My View - Fun game and "cute" as game spot says, but the humor is really the most memorable side of things. It is not perfect, but is a fun game, worthy of a rental

Children of Mana

Children of Mana focuses on a set of four orphaned children, each of whom had lost their parents during a cataclysmic disaster that had occurred years ago. Peace descended over time, until things suddenly take a turn for the worse. Children of Mana for the DS is a fun romp in Square Enix's "World of Mana", but those looking for a successor to all that was great about Secret of Mana will be disappointed.

My View - While a fan of Secret of Mana and was totally pissed off at the lack of a true sequel, once i went back with a clear head this game became enjoyable and fun. It was blasted by many critics because it was not Secret, but those who saw past it found a good game, rewarding to play and while not epic as it could have been is worth owning or just a long term rental.

I am not an RPG person. I tried Children of Mana and I was ok. It is your usual hack and slash rpg. Go around an kill monsters. Pick up weapons and stuff. A lot like Diablo but with little anime characters.
