So my recent trip to San Juan Puerto Rico starts like this.
My old boss emails me asking for a Windows 8 licensing deck that she can use for a training event. She (my old boss) then tells me she is going to be delivering the training and its in San Juan Puerto Rico. Scratching my head, I send her the deck I would use and say have fun, wish I could go in your place.
I’m eating supper with my family that night and my boss calls and says, "we have one person who bailed on the training we promised to deliver, can you cover?"
Of course I say yes, and then my boss says "get your bags packed, Puerto Rico is calling you.. you leave tomorrow night."
So just like that, I go from the frozen tundra of North Dakota to sunny Puerto Rico for the next few days!
San Juan lacked in many ways though. It really felt like Miami or the a place in Florida that was more run down with some nice parts. The fact that you really didn’t want to leave the hotel for fear you might be stabbed or kidnapped by someone who doesn’t speak English was my biggest worry. That or jacking me and my camera was my only other thought. I felt like I had to constantly watch over my shoulder to make sure someone isn’t waiting for that right time to run in and knock me down and run away with my shit... seriously! The food was meh. I've went to a few different places and honestly would rather not eat there again. Nothing was spicy; it just had a meh flavor. The scenery was great in some places - but others you just looked at and smelt nasty.
San Juan was nice and warm - probably the best thing about going, since when I got back home it was -25 out.
I would rather spend the $$$ and go one or two islands over and not deal with PR.
(BTW.. for those wondering what I do... I am a Project Manager covering sales, marketing, licensing for Microsoft and Windows 8 - supporting Microsoft's large account resellers in the entire US.. and apparently Puerto Rico now!)

Kidnapping in PR? I didn't now that was a 'thing' over there, Mexico yes but PR?!
Ah well at least you can say you've been there and scratch that off the bucket list. Good thing it was on someone elses dime if you didnt' like it.

Nice pictures. My buddy is over there for 10 months rebuilding a road through the rain forrest and working on a airport runway. He says the exact things about PR that you do. He likes it but is ready to come home and would rather vacation some where else.
