Here is a picture of the 360 controller I use at the moment. I took the sticks off and put on PS3 sticks. For me the PS3 sticks work way better. I tend to overshoot my targets alot. This set up tends to cut that down for me. Plus, I switch back and forth between the 360 and the PS3. This way both systems have the same feel to the controls.

Here is how you can do it.  It's very easy.
1.  The controller has screws w/ pins in them.  you can order a special screwdriver or make your own.  Just take a star driver and notch it with a dremel with a cut off disk attachment.  Watch your fingers!  Remove the screws.

2. Take the controller apart.  Don't worry, it's not difficult to put back together.  Dremel the "hood"off the PS3 sticks.  If you don't you won't get the full motion of the stick range and it will rub in spots.  At this point without the case on it seems like the L3/R3 tack switch won't engage.  It will once the case is back on.

3.  Re-assemble the case and your set!

I believe PS2 sticks will work in the same manner.  I am totally not sure of that, though.  A pawn shop is a good place to pick up an old beat up controller.

The sticks on the PS controllers never struck me as good for shooters. With them rounded on the top instead of concave like the Xbox. My thumbs have always slipped off of them.
