Shared on Fri, 11/05/2010 - 21:59After suffering with a cold I couldn't shake - turns out I had an upper respiratory infection. Thank goodness for my tonsils - the Doctor suspects they prevented the infection from spreading to my chest and lungs - but my sinus and throat suck. I am now on antibiotics and looking forward to finally getting this behind me.
I thought that was the bad news....oh no....life isn't like that.
In the middle of a New Vegas quest my beloved 360 died.
No farewell, no parting word or beep or boop just sudden silence and the sign-out of a screen gone black. Pissed. Swearing. Pitiful attempts. Oh no. Despair. What to do? Weep? Not I, not me. I always have to try to play saviour. An SOS to Microsoft support and Staples geeks and Future Shop nerds garnered untold sympathy, some last ditch resurrection suggestions. FAIL. Sad. It wasn't without hope or without trying but finally I had to come to the truth. My 360 was gone. *taps playing*
Now what? I had a woman stuck halfway between Primm and New Vegas with a dark-souled ex-NCR sniper named Boone and a weird cyborg shepherd named Rex - all depending me on me to get them home (if there is such a thing in a nuked world).
So I packed my 360 in its original box and....debating, soul searching, um-ing and finally....bought me a new one. There goes my allowance for this month. Grumble. Frown at the new 360 box. Wait. There is a sticker other than the price sticker. Ooooo...it comes Kinect ready....I think I could feel a healing smile spreading across my face....new toys. New love. Move it in and unpack. Roomies.
Whats this? Oooo, she comes with a head set...try that on...kinda dorky but oh well I never was a fashionista. Put that in my "just in case/close at hand" box. Ooooo, a new wireless controller....black...um, okay but I still kinda like my red charge as you go baby so um...yeah, back in the box incase the other one wears out, breaks or whatevers.
I got a new 360!!! She is fine.
It doesn't weigh as much as my former. It isn't white (sigh) but its black and better still - its sexy (drool) and it does blend better beside my original X-box. I think if they were two robots my original X-box would have mounted this 360 already and they would have bred little x-boxes all over the room by now. Yeah, this newbie looks that fine. Damn.
AND...Oh-My-G...I finally hooked up my 360 with points! Our satelite connection is more stable than the old internet service so I went for it since more games are threatening...I mean offering DLC and I want, I want, I want. (Wanting may prove to be more attractive than actually having though - we'll see). Arcade has been making me itch too so I am going to try it out. Imagine that! I was given a 30 day free Gold membership to try....but....I dunno...I only have the headset that came with the new 360 and no friends. I mean I have friend-friends but you know...not gamer friends...so I shrugged but accepted it, its FREE dammitt. Anyway, for those who are more experienced than this old virgin - I guess I am Foxytrot1000 and might bump into yah sometime or something. Don't laugh at my amateur head gear though 'Kay?
I had to call Microsoft support again because I didn't want to screw up transfering my games and profile from my old hard drive to my new 360. That is golden now and was almost a waste of a call actually since I figured it out mostly ahead of the fella at the end of the phone and I am back in New Vegas...still grinding the quests but having a bit of fun too.
In the wings I have Fable III sitting on the shelf. The hubby picked it up for me, felt bad as I've been going through a bit of a crisis lately but I am a trooper and wouldn't go down and just put one foot in front of the other to keep it going. Can't wait to get to Fable but want to tap out New Vegas first.
Don't know why but Halo Reach is still weighing on my thoughts a bit and made me keep thinking of a quote from To Kill a Mockingbird. The particular quote makes me think of Halo but also brings to mind Gears of War...and maybe it touches close to so many of our darker personal moments when we just know we got to get up and get on.
"I wanted you to see what real courage is, instead of getting the idea that courage is a man with a gun in his hand. It's when you know you're licked before you begin but you begin anyway and you see it through no matter what. You rarely win, but sometimes you do."
PS - Holy crap. It it true about the amount of space you need for Kinect? My gameroom isn't that big but surely if I place it on top of my TV I don't need 6'? Do I??? Microsoft you are so damn evil to tempt us and get us hooked and then THIS!!! Say it isn't sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! I might need an eraser to take that off my Christmas wish list. Grumble.
Take care, friends. Oh...is it just me or was this not a bloody good year for 360 gamers? I say I am RIIIIGHT.
