Identity, what is it good for anyways? Absolutely nothing!

When you gasp awake in the morning from your nightly terrors and pull yourself from your flannel sheets, when you crawl towards the shower on all fours like some mongrel canine unleashed upon the world after years of non-stop manhandling, who are you? Do you look into the mirror and question the image of the ragged feral beast in front of you? When do you become you, is it after you have tried valiantly to scrub away yesterday with your Axe scented body wash aided by your shower tool (IT’S A LUFA DAMMIT) and you dry off with some imitation cotton towel?  Is it after you shove another bowl of sugar smacks into your face you big girl you? Is it after you slurp down another 32oz Frappuccino that costs $10 or three months of pay to a sweat shop slave? Is it after you whine on the 2ol2play forums about H4 not being developed by 343 solely for your enjoyment?

Who are you and does it even matter? Do you think anyone else cares outside their immediate three foot radius world?  I think we are an arm’s length society; if it’s not within three feet, who gives a flip? Extreme individualism and selfishness, almost to the point of apathy for life, the world, etc.

I think I have concerned myself with all of the wrong this for far too long. I don’t want to work a 50 hour week, if that’s what it takes to earn an extra $1,000 a year, and then I say, “Next, please.” If I feel I disappoint my parents by being the first born and making far less than they were at my age, I really just have the wrong priorities.  I feel like I have been brain washed into a society of instant gratification fueled by commercialism.  They say the American dream is doing better than the previous generation, I say the American dream is watching people eating BBQ together and drinking great beer. My American dream is having a decent job, decent benefits, good health, and a fair wage for everyone.

Why is it, when we see people with issues, be they economic or social, the first emotion is disgust? I say to my friend, “We need to help those in need, because of the downturn.”  He says, “Those people have it too good, I see those people all the time at Wal-Mart on their I-Phones, they don’t need my money.”

MY MONEY AND THOSE PEOPLE

MY MONEY AND THOSE PEOPLE

MY MONEY AND THOSE PEOPLE

We all depend on each other. My friend says he thought we shouldn’t have bailed out Wall Street and that maybe we need to see food lines. Do we need people to suffer more? And why the poor or the hungry or the children, why do they need to suffer more? Dig the hole deeper and keep piling them in.  Forget the facts, forget the data, forget kindness, ignore Buddha, ignore Mohammad, and ignore Jesus.  Who needs a moral compass when you have emotion? We need our help and it takes money, power and compassion.
