1973 Chateau Lascombes, Margaux, France Second Growth, Grand Cru Clase in 1855
Dark red, firm and full bodied wine with licorice, vanilla and carmel, now probably faded with herbal and earthy notes.
1973 Chateau Prieure-Lichine, Margaux, France Fourth Growth, Grand Cru Clase in 1855
54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Deep purple, Blackberry, cranberry and licorice, now probably faded into cedar and herbs.
1990 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac, France Fifth Growth, Grand Cru Clase in 1855 (considered a top growth today)
Dark ruby-red with a garnet edge. Aromas of red fruit, flowers, tar and minerals. Sweet on entry, with flavors of red cherry syrup, vanilla and milk chocolate, long finish with notes of tobacco and krsch. Wine is at its peak!
2006 Chateau Montrose, Saint-Estephe, France, Second Growth, Grand Cru Clase in 1855
Ruby red. Expressive nose offers blackcurrant, plum, blueberry, licorice, roasted herbs, smoke and minerals. Supple and refined with dusty tannins. Earthy mineral with a touch of mistiness. Blackberry pie with fruit and crust.
