Shared on Fri, 04/18/2008 - 09:21A week or so ago, my Asus motherboard gave up the ghost in the form of a corrupted BIOS chip. It must have gotten zapped or pinged or something while I was cleaning the case out. Looking on Newegg & Tigerdirect.com, I could not find another motherboard to suit my needs for my current hardware. No one makes AGP boards anymore, or I couldn't find a MB that had 2 IDE slots, AND took my Pentium 4. So I had to spend more than I planned to get all new hardware.
Had to get a new processor, RAM, motherboard, and video card.
Got them from Newegg for around $580 or so...give or take because of shipping.
Hooked up and installed everything Wednesday when I got home from work and had zero issues really. Just had to reactivate Windows....but no biggy.
So then a decision had to be made. Which game to install first. I decided to go with the Orange Box. Had several games to try out all in one package.
Overall I'm pleased with how they all run. Had some issues with Portal, but got that worked out. Smooth, steady framerate, insane resolution.
Then I went and downloaded the Unreal Tournament 3 demo. This is what pc gaming is all about. I fired it up full spec and not one damn hiccup. I cranked it up to the resolution my Dell monitor could handle (1280x1050 I believe), all the details and settings at high or max. It brought tears of pure joy streaming down my face. It was a visual orgasm for my eyes. And it was pure, 100% Grade A win.
So as soon as I can afford it (car problems jumped up suddenly last night), I'll be picking up UT3 and possibly Gears of War if I can get the PC guys here on 2old2play to invite me to some games. That'll be next week or so though.
Also, gonna be mailing my 360 off again this week to Microsuck. They didn't fix it the first time, and if it doesn't come back fixed this time....there will be some pissed off people re-evaluating their career choice when I get done with them.
you all have a good weekend, and I hope to see you in some Halo 3 or Vegas 2.
- Gatsu OUT!
P.S. - Jules is sick, so keep her in yer prayers if you would. She sounds so pitiful over the phone. Hopefully she'll get better soon.
