Dear Baskin Robbins,

This past Monday evening my wife and I had the very rare opportunity to get out of the house without our children and go out to dinner and enjoy each others company. We had a great meal and decided to have dessert at the local Baskin Robbins. Now, we don't have a Baskin Robbins in our home town so this is an extra special event for us as my wife's favorite ice cream is Mint Chocolate Chip from Baskin Robbins.

So we walk into the restaurant and I notice that the girl working the register is talking on her cell phone. I didn't think anything of it. Both my wife and I went into the rest room and came out in a few minutes. The young lady was still talking on her phone. She talked on the phone while my wife and I looked over the various flavors. She talked on the phone while she took our order. She talked on the phone while she scooped our our ice cream. She talked on the phone while she rang us up and gave us our change. She talked on the phone while we ate our ice cream and she was talking on the phone when we left.

We arrived there at 9:10 P.M. and left at 9:30 P.M.. According to another couple there who arrived before us, she was talking on the phone when they had arrived at 9:00 P.M.  So the girl was chatting away at least for 30 minutes while tolerating her customers who kept trying to interrupt her conversation when they needed service.

The only time she spoke to us was when she said "What?" when I tried to tell her what ice cream I wanted and when she told us the total of the sale.

As bad as this situation is, it is made worse by the fact that my wife and I don't get to get out of the house very often at all and this really but a damper on the evening.

The only silver lining to this is that the other girl that was working there that evening was working circles around the girl on the phone. She was taking care of customers, cleaning, taking out the trash, etc. Really hustling.  That is the kind of service I appreciate and frankly expect from a company like Baskin Robbins.

The girl in question-

I know that the high standards of service held by Baskin Robbins is not demonstrated by this kind of performance and I knew that you would want to be made aware of it.

These situations need to be brought to the company's attention. That is not customer service and they would be appalled.

I never expect anything but bad service from these establishments. Think about it, theres usually one major boss of some sort with any pull that gives a shit. And half the time there not there. Ive come to a conclusion that the best times to go is in the Mornings or early afternoons. Only because the Manager that cares about your service is still there. And there keeping everyone else in check. After 3 or 5 PM Anyone with Seniority is gone for the day cause they pick there own hours.

Nice job, let us know if you get your "free ice cream for a year card" We should all make owners/Corps know about crappy & rude service. I used to do it more but....

I experienced something similar the other day at our local Pharmacy. I was pretty perturbed with the girl who was ringing me up and chatting on her cell the whole time. After the purchaae I went straight back to the manager (I used to work there after school-I know the boss...this is a small town pharmacy to the pharmacist is the boss and is there almost all the time). Needless to say, I don't think she will be doing that anytime in the near future. How rude!

You don't take a job to do the minimum. You are paid to do the job, not to talk on your cellphone to the detriment of the business. SC

Awesome!! I think if we all wrote letters like that then maybe so many of these "younger" workers wouldn't be so lazy at their jobs and take it more seriously. I know it doesn't take a brain surgeon, but its a JOB. They should do what they are being paid to do, no matter how boring.

JoeBob is a letter writer! I get so sick of this type of behavior. I see it all the time. The worst ones I've seen are workers who work for gratuity. Don't they realize they're screwing money out of their own pocket? There's a bar up here called Mardi Gras, and I refuse to go to a certain bartender. While it was slow, I stood at the bar, with no one around me, for 10 minutes before she decided to hang up and ask me if I wanted something. Needless to say she was pissed when I gave the other bar tender $20 tip just for remembering that I was drinking Bud Light. She gives me dirty looks when I go up to the bar now.
