That usually meant making something move faster, shoot farther, etc. I also really appreciate a good hack and I have found a great one from Kipkay over at metacafe who also seems to have the same passion.
The hack involves turning a fairly pedestrian 2AA flashlight into a retina-scalding pocket rocket for less than what you would pay for lunch. Here is a picture of two lights - the stock version and the modded version:
As you can see, the output on the modded light is considerably brighter.
The parts list for this trick are:
2AA Eveready Contractor flashlight (I found mine at Home Depot for less than $5)
Krypton flashlight lamp (RadioShack #272-1163 for less than $1.50)
Three (3) CR123A 3 volt batteries (from anywhere but the cheapest option is in bulk on ebay.com)
