Stupid America

In a recent visit to Taco Bueno I picked up a kid's meal for one of my kiddos and I saw that the toy in the meal looked to be one of those "educational" type toys.  I appreciate it when an eatery goes out of their way to make the toys more than just something to play with but try to help raise the IQ of the little guys and gals as well as raising the cholesterol levels. Sonic and Quiznos are really good at this and I was excited to see the one from Taco Bueno was space related:

The one in our kid's meal was the purple "Moonwalk" one and it worked like a miniature View-Master.

Right off the bat I knew I was in for a treat when I saw the first slide:

Now, I may be behind on current events, but I am fairly confident that the Space Shuttle has never been to the Moon and you would think that the "educational experts" behind this program would know this. The next slide continues the error:

Lift off of the Space Shuttle Atlantis bound for a rendezvous with the Moon!

The third slide gets it right:

Not only is it a moon, it's OUR Moon!

Slide number four is spot on:

and slide number five even has a real Apollo astronaut!

I was half expecting a picture of the purple haired girl from Space:1999.

Slide number six features the Lunar Rover scooting across the lunar surface so we are still in the '70's and the Apollo program. Very bueno!

After a shaky start and a solid middle, Taco Bueno drops the ball at the finish:

I take it the lunar lander lifted off the Moon's surface to dock with the Shuttle? A difficult task made even more difficult since the two programs happened decades apart.

It's things like this that make me think that America is slowly slumping its way to mediocrity.  School systems don't task their students and seem to be more interested in pursuing funding than educating students. Students are not instilled with the drive and initiative to excel at home either. The parents expect the government and the schools to raise their children.  We are beginning to reap what we have sown with stuff like this.

If you are a teacher and you are really trying to make a difference and produce quality citizens, then my hat is off to you. All you slackers need to re-evaluate what you are doing and why you are doing it and either do it right or do something else.

You know, G_Bob, you're absolutely right, we never even went to the moon at all...j/k, seriously, haven't you seen the 4 mile landing/take-off strip on the moon on a clear night?

The prism of history is a beautiful thing.

also - don't you think it would be hard to land the space shuttle with the lunar-rover trailer behind it? Those astronauts are awesome!
