Why Buy Bioshock?

I mean, if you really don't care about collecting video games that is.

My point about Bioshock is this: It is a single player game that is linear and doesn't have much in the way of replay value. It is a great game, I am sure. I am not debating whether or not that Bioshock is worth your money. It totally is. What I am saying is, if the game is only 10-15 hours to play through, you could concievably rent it for 5-7 days ( I think you have it for this long from Blockbuster Videos) and finish it. Even if you have to re-rent it to complete it (or play it again) you have only spent like $10 on it at this point.

So, why spend the $60 on the game that you will most likely only play once or twice?

You seem to describe the situation of owning vs. renting, but leave out the idea of owning the asset that has re-sale value vs. renting and having no equity.

Yes that is true Kyosogi. I do own alot of games. I guess for me it has just gone to the point that I really need to save money. I mean, with everything that is coming out this season I sort of need to pick my shots, so to speak. I still want to play all the greatness that is being released though. I can sort of see how 2K may have shot themselves in the foot with Bioshock. Here they made a great game, but there is the chance that not many will purchase it simply because they feel it has little replay value. Sort of wierd considering how great a game it is.

Good question.... I like songs by Sly and the Family Stone and TV shows starring Gary Coleman :)

I don't buy any game anymore unless it has a fantastic multiplayer component to it. Bioshock included. I'll rent it down the road, have a great gaming experience, and save myself $50.00

My view is different. I don't dash through a game like this to see how fast I can get to the end. I investigate all the shadowed corners. In BioShock there are various moral choices you can make that effect the story. I'll play it again making different choices. Finally, I'll come back months or years later and want to experience the game again. I do this with books I enjoy, as well. Blockbuster won't keep BioShock on the rental shelves forever. I made the mistake of buying Shdowrun and I should have rented it. I like GoW and Halo for multiplayer better than Shadowrun.
