Shared on Mon, 02/09/2009 - 20:51Still haven't done much writing, but I have spent a lot of time re-editing, reformatting to fit each individual editor's preference, and submitting some of my short stories. I loathe the business end of writing. It takes all the fun out of it. And the market research is just dreadful. Sure, there are a lot of horror mags out there. The problem is sifting through what each one wants. Out of 30 or so mags, your particular story might fit the criteria of 5. Then you have to read some of their samples to make sure it's a good fit, check out what rights they're buying, what they pay (if anything), is it print or online only. I prefer to submit only to print mags. I want a physical copy of my story, something I can look at ten years from now. It's miserable shit, and I tend to put it off for as long as I can.
I started the Chantix today. Next monday is my quit date, so wish me luck.
Trinity's birthday party Saturday was a success. She had a good time with her friends (I didn't, mind you. A houseful of 5-year-old hooligans ain't my idea of fun), and my wife met a couple of new people. She's already swapping email and recipes. As long as she doesn't drag me into it and make me hang out with the husbands, I say have fun.
