Not to be outdone by big brother, she too made a break for it at 6 months which meant another trip to Ottawa in the ambulance. This time, however, we knew what to expect so I took the little one over to Grandma's and went home to pack a bag. Got to the hospital as the ambulance attendants were coming out of the room she was in. Upon entering the room, I was greeted with "How did you get here so fast?". Umm...what do you mean. "Well, I just got here a minute ago and you had to take the baby to Mom's and go home again. So?". Umm...light traffic? The doc saved my skin by coming in at this point. Any way, another week was spent in hospital and everything was calmed down. Again.
Once everyone was back home safe and sound, a trip to our doctor resulted in a sentence of house arrest....?....what do you mean doc? Complete bed rest for the balance of the pregnancy. How complete? Complete. Bathroom and showers only. So I now have to become Superdad/husband. Look after her, and the baby AND continue job hunting( got laid off 2 months earlier). I had visions of this not going well. She is extremly extroverted and lives to visit friends and family.
So fast forward and surprise, surprise, at 8 months, breakout attempt #2. This time the prelims weren't so drawn out. This one wanted out NOW! The doctor was late in arriving and at one point the nurse made the mistake of saying "you have to stop pushing". Well, I've never seen a better Linda Blair imitation. The head swiveled around and she growled(seriously, scary shit this) I'M. NOT. PUSHING. I quietly backed up here. If she was going to go for the nurses throat, I wasn't getting in the way.
The doctor showed and everyone prepared for the arrival. Things were going along smoothly and then, BAM. Stuck. Waddya mean, stuck? The head's jammed, won't come out. This isn't good is it? No it's not. The medical staff started to get that panicy look. Another doctor is called in and after a few tense moments child no 2 finally enters the world. 7lbs 13oz. Just curious doc, if she had gone full term, how big would the baby have been? Rough guess? Pushing 11lbs. Hmmm...my dear, what big eyes you have.
