Remakes

So today's movie subject is remakes. Should they or shouldn't they? I'm of mixed emotions here. I love movies. Old and new. Technology today makes it possible to put anything on the big screen and have it look as real as if you were standing next to it. Older movies look positively primitive by today's standards.

That being said, a lot of the movies coming out now look and sound fantastic but seem to lack one thing. Style. Too many special effects and not enough attention to dialogue, plotlines and character chemistry. Too much sizzle and not enough steak. Also, the original idea well seems to have run dry as well because the marquees are jammed packed with sequels and remakes.

Sometimes, just because you can do something doesn't always mean you should. For the most part I don't like remakes. They mess with my memories. The exceptions (King Kong, The Thing ) are few and far between.

I present to you then two trailers for remakes coming soon to a theatre near you:

Bad old movies may look primative. Yesterday, I was watching Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in Charade. Those balck and white flicks have a style that is timeless.
