Xbox Sites may be seeing thier last days.

It seems every gaming site that you visit these days, that covers or tries to cover every console seems to lean more and more towards the Xbox 360. This can deter avid game fans away from your site or at the very least, away from the content you want the most traffic in.

My Predictions
I am predicting that is going to change in 2011. I believe that Playstation is going to over run the Xbox in website content by the end of 2011. The comparisons with the Xbox and PS3 motion technology differs but is basically the same concept. You
move, the game moves. Or as both companies tell it. “Full emersion”! But I think the one thing that is going to hurt the Xbox most is the Xbox slim. (Let me explain) Microsoft released the Xbox a year to soon. For the Kinect the release of the slim is a big deal. 2011 is going to mark the full integration of USB 3.0 and for Xbox that’s going to hurt their consumers. Most consumers are not thinking about the USB 3.0 technology and the money they are going to need to spend on it. Here is the thing. Releasing the Xbox slim was a hasty move. They will not be able to release another version in 2011 and the only thing Xbox will have over PS3 in hardware will be the N wireless. Not a big deal. I predict Sony will release another PS3 at the end of 2011 bundled with a new PS eye that is USB 3.0 and can react faster than the USB 2.0 version for the Playstation Move.

What’s the big deal? Microsoft demoed the Kinect at E3 but the only games you saw the Kinect being used on is games you would expect to see on the Wii. I think when Microsoft starts making Real hardcore games for Kinect they are going to find that it is not 1:1 and they will have to release another version of the Xbox slim with 3.0 support so the Kinect can react faster for more intense games. No one is going to by a new console a second year in a row for just an upgrade to an already $150 peripheral. MS made a hasty move!

Something that might give you an idea of what I am talking about. If you take a USB 2.0 $100 web cam and record about 2 minutes of video. You will notice two things. The quality isn’t that great for $100 and its still pretty slow and choppy. Now do the same thing on one of those new Laptops that have a built in Webcam on the frame. Good Quality and not that choppy. The main difference is that integrated webcam on the laptop isn’t using a USB port type of connection. Its plugged in directly in to the Bus of the system. So the transfer rate is much higher than a USB port

Even with all of that said. The USB 2.0 PS Eye does a great job at a 1:1 movement and I think it surpasses the Kinect. At least as far as I have seen from Microsoft. Which isn’t much.

I had just watched the July issue of Qore last night along with my 9 year old son. While watching the tech demo for the Playstation move, we both got that chill down our spine. You know chill I am talking about. That goose bump feeling you get when you realize what you knew about something really cool, was just way more awesome than you expected!

The Playstation move tech demo did just that. An amazing display, and a real true sense of just how 1:1 the Playstation Move is. With my earlier prediction of the PS3 for 2011 I can only imagine what type of games Sony and other 3rd party publishers can create with that new speed being available.

This isn’t the Video I saw but they did some of the things I saw and I recommend finding other demo video out there.

Hope you enjoy

Until My next thought… Let the Games Begin!

The problem with Kinect isn't that it's USB2, it's that it hands off the processing to the 360 to do rather than doing it itself like originally designed. They pulled the processor out of Kinect to keep the cost low, but 150 bucks is low ?!?! wtf. The Motion/Eye thing for PS3 is equally stupid, it's simply a mo-cap device the camera tracks the stupid looking ball on the end of the stick. I don't think Move is going to really be as good as it's being hyped, tracking a single ball on the end of a stick is limited that's why when movie studios do it there's a few dozen balls. I think this whole 'move' technology from all three vendors is stupid.

TANK, Take a look at the video. The Demo they were doing (or one of the Other Videos) shows it tracking the persons head with out any balls or anything

Ahhh.... another start to the "which console is better" argument. It's a moot argument. All hardcore gamers have every console and use them when they like, how they like. I use my Wii mostly with my kids. Use the Xbox when connecting with my clan, and use my PS3 when i have a desire to play one of those games. I figure 2011 will the year I upgrade all of my consoles.

In theory, you make quite a valid point. However, the PS3 has always been the superior system as far as technological prowess. It didn't make a difference. I don't see that changing. To my mind there are only two relevant factors when it comes down to the nitty gritty. Who has the better system exclusives, and who's cheaper? I was a Sony guy. I played my PS2 much more than my original Xbox. But coming into the current generation, I didn't have a ton of extra cash, so I chose the 360 with the intention of getting a PS3 down the road. As time went on, I just never felt the PS3 was so vastly superior that I should spend the dough on the system instead of using that money for 360 games. I have no desire for the Kinect or Move, so this new battle is still not enough to make me care about the PS3. It seems unlikely to me that Sony can somehow persuade a large number of 360 players to switch just because Move may end up being better than Kinect. I doubt the gaming landscape will change very much with the exception of Microsoft and Sony converting a few Wii users.
