Ok, here is the real reason I wanted to write this blog. I recently got back into one of my old hobbies. I have always like baseball. Growing up, it was always my favorite to play. I love going to baseball games. I love the sights, sounds and smells of the ballpark. Like some of you, I collected baseball cards growing up. Those cards are long gone now. About 6 years ago, I got my hands on a small collection of cards from one of my students. He didn't want them anymore and was going to throw them away. I told him to bring them to me. They were all common cards and not worth anything at all. Most people think old baseball cards means big bucks. This just isn't true. Most cards aren't worth anything. I got to talking to another teacher about the cards one day and he told me what he was doing with all his old cards. He was sending his cards back to the players and asking for them to be autographed. He had quite the collection. It turns out that a lot of the old players are happy to sign if you will just send a self addressed stamped envelope so they can send it back to you. I did this off an on for a few years and life got in the way. I recently pulled out the old cards and decided to see if I could get a few more autographs for the collection. I will post any of my successes here as they come in. In the meantime here is a return from recent Hall of Fame inductee Goose Gossage.
If anybody has any old cards they want to get rid of let me know. My little boys are getting into this big time. They will not allow us to get the mail without them. They want to be the one's to see if there are any "graphs" in the mail today.
