Why I Love Being A Dad

Today was one of those days.  I went to swim lessons with the family today since I will be taking them by myself next week while my wife takes some classes.  The problem is my little one (almost 4) will not get in the pool without his mom getting in with him.  She wanted me to go today so I will know what to do next week.   We  get there and we are a little early  so I get the little guy ready.   Swim vest and  floaties for the arms.  The kid couldn't  sink  if you tied a boat anchor around his neck.  I pull him off to the side and it's deal time.  I tell him I will take him to Wal-Mart and get him a suprise if he will be a big boy and get in without mommy.  No!  Okay, what if I get a steering wheel for the new driving game (Forza 2).  Yeah.  He says he will do it.  Little did he know I was going to get it anyways.  He gets in with big brother (5 years old) and does fantastic.  You can watch him almost transform from a little untrusting guy to someone who is not afraid to take chances.  By the end of the hour he is not the same kid.  He is fearless.  He is begging me to let him do it by himself next week.  It was also nice to see big brother try to take care of him.  Big brother wasn't much better last year and he is the best one in class this year.  They make me proud.  Not really sure how to put it into words but days like today make it all worth while.  Besides, I have to go, there is a wheel downstairs waiting for me to hook up.

Cool! I love to read/hear that parents are teaching their kids to swim. It is even more interesting for you & yours living in a landlocked state (TN). I am always surprised when, in Florida, I encounter kids that cannot swim - we are surrounded by water on three sides and pools are all over the place, swimming should be required! Good to read you got the littlest over the fright hurdle. The lesson should serve him well, further on in life.
