It's About Literacy Y'all - Who Needs Grammar?

I noticed these posters at my daughter's school and just had to shake my head. They are from a campaign to promote literacy program awareness in Oklahoma, called Read Y'all, which is sponsored by our library system. The first one I saw featured our governor, Brad Henry, and his wife. Apparently, they are using anybody with any hint of being a celebrity in the state, such as James Garner, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood and Garrett Mills.

I'm all for promoting literacy, but shouldn't we promote literacy without resorting to butchering grammar?

Here's some sample posters, sorry about the size, but the one I took with my cellphone didn't come out so hot.

At least they spelled "y'all" right. I hate seeing it spelled "ya'll."

I see what you are saying but they could be doing it to make a point about how bad it looks and sounds to use words like this. But what do I know. I live in TN.

This state already has a reputation as being filled with backwards rednecks. I shudder to think what someone visiting from somewhere else would think if they saw these poster hanging in a public library or a school here. It's bad enough we named our pro basketball team "Thunder".
