They want to post the 10 commandments, they want to ban anything 'sinful' like homosexuality or abortion, they want to remove anything from school curriculum that even hints at a scientific explanation for things instead of 'god did it'. If we were to be ruled by a particular holy book that would only mean disaster for freedom and liberty. We have real world examples of governments that are heavily influenced by religious belief, and they all suck donkey balls. Let's take Saudi Arabia for example. Here is a cute little story about what happens when ultra-conservative religious types start running things.
Yesterday a 75 year old woman named Khamisa Sawadi was arrested by the Saudi Arabian Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice. She was sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail. And her crime? She was seen speaking with two young men who are not her relatives. If convicted, it won't stop with just the beatings and jail time. After being flogged and jailed, she will then be deported for the crime under Sharia law. She is being charged with the horrible crime of “illegal mingling.” Of course the two men were obviously up to no good, talking to this poor old widow. What devious conversation were they having to illicit such a harsh response? What could they have been plotting? It seems that the two men were delivering bread. Ah ha! Blasphemy! Whoremongers! Heathens! Burn them all!
Don't think that this is just a Middle Eastern / Muslim / Sharia Law problem. Christians would do the same thing. Don't think so? Try going through a few post on Rapture Ready or Red State or World Net Daily. It is chock full of rants about killing non-believers, forcing students to pray every morning, jailing atheists, murdering doctors who perform abortions, and a ton of other "Christ like" behavior.
Yes, they are the fringe and they are the extremists, but there are literally thousands and thousands of them. We have them in our state legislature, we have them in congress, and at one point we had one in the White House. George Bush made the statement that atheists should not be considered Americans because this is one nation under god. It is a logical fallacy but the slippery slope still gives me the chills.
