I think teams need to communicate and that means some constructive criticism will need to be given from time to time. Trying to be concise and polite at the same time may not be possible, but not being a total ass is easy. Competitive players will get upset when the game isn't going well. Nothing will stop that. Being upset is okay, but bitching at the team or constantly or whining about what is happening really won't help. I'm not throwing stones, because I'm writing about stuff I'm working on, not necessarily what I'm good at.
When I'm faced against a team that is obviously better, I try to still have fun. If they are spawn controlling douchebags, its tough but fun can still be had. I teabagged and donkey punched the crap out of one timmy team a few nights ago. In a different game of snipers my team seemed to be playing against an invisible opponent with incredible accuracy. We spent more time in respawn than we did aiming. Meh, I had plenty of time enjoy my drink and laugh as my teammates cried for mercy.
When there's one player on the team that really isn't doing well, I do my best to offer advice. I remember that I was once that guy, and still am on some teams. I'm sure he thinks he being helpful by running straight at that guy with the shotgun. I'll ask him to ease up and try to stay near him to team shoot and protect him. If he makes an effort to adjust, I really don't mind the loss. It's a game that's all about teamwork. Small improvements are the sign of good teammates.
When I am that guy that's getting spanked I try to make it known. I'll ask for some help or let everyone know I'll be hiding somewhere. When a teammate yells at me for doing something stupid I'll try to filter it into constructive criticism and just make a mental note to give that guy an extra teabag during our next custom match.
So, another simple thing for me to work on: Chill the fuck out
