Day 1

Today is the day I start my long road of quitting smoking cigarrettes. The clan has given me some great advice and I was wondering if any of you out there have any stories or advice to give. Its going to be hard as I used to love the damn sticks, but I think its been enough. I need it for my health, my social life and of course my wallet ($10 a pack here in nyc!).

Im going cold turkey. Lots of gum. Will most likley be smoking some weed at night. I go to the gym regularly and eat well so I dont know about this weight gain I hear happens. Wish me luck!

Don't worry, they don't expect you to preform "Hand Release" on your first day.

Well it's all mental dank. It's all about discipline. If you truly want to quit you'll quit. But temptation is huge for those who smoke weed. There is always that urge to smoke a cig after a blunt.

quit in '84, smoked from the time i was 15, started on hand rolls, and when i could afford it, marlboros and winstons. hurt my neck in '84, quit cold turkey, best thing i ever did for my health. like ekattan says, it's all mental. you have to want to do it, my incentive was not having a coughing fit after surgery, while in a neck brace, i hurt enough without that added pain. when you do kick it and have no more desire, you will not be able to tolerate being around someone that does smoke. you will look to avoid places that allow smoking and steer clear if someone lights up near you.

I can tell you i lost alot of finger nails. Oh man was it hard! I went to a volley ball game and i did not have cigs on me so i figured i would get them later. Later came and i felt like i really did not "need" them so i tried to see if i could make it a day without them. Its been over ten years since i have not needed a smoke. Up to this day i still get the urge to have one but i have yet too. I do enjoy a good cigar once a month or longer. I love a good stogy. Good luck and when you feel that urge, just try to do something else or replace that feeling with something positive or physical to do.

Yeah fatherfalcon is right on. I cant stand that smell anymore, everybody smells like a freaking ashtray. After a month or so youll start to notice.

I wish you the best of luck. Don't get discouraged even if you slip up and have a cigarette. I smoked second hand for the first 18 years of my life via my parents so it never appealed to me when I did reach that age. I do smoke Cannabis and I am an activist within the community. A lot of my activist friends have found it easier to quit cigarettes by smoking Cannabis when they get the urge.

good louck, my advice, if you have a GF take a two week break from her, if you have a wife,m move into teh Grage for a couple of weeks, take a vacation from work. :) this will certainly make it easier. The dope will help for sure because it will be harder to get up and get the ciggies so long as they are out of immediate reach.
