I first started noticing this problem with books and movies: that is looking for something that has some substance that hasn’t been done to death.  I actually cringe when going to movies and renting them because they so easily bore me.  I can walk around blockbuster reading the back of boxes and pick out the plot elements without even watching the flick.  Books are bad too.  I can’t tell you how many I’ve picked up and never finished because the plot was already familiar.  TV is even worse.  Sitcoms make me want to claw my face off they’re so dull and insipid (that includes “24”.  Here’s a clue, recycling current events into a fictional plotline is not interesting or compelling).  It’s to the point that I cannot physically make myself watch TV.  Even stuff like Food Network, which I normally love, is boring me to death.  Do you like food challenges?  How about again?  How about now?  Missed it the first time?  Now it’s repackage in another show.  Lost love stories!  We got all you can handle.  Here’s another one.  And a funny one, this time with Ben Stiller.  You love him!  How about a serious one with the lovely Zellweger?

Christ, I can’t take it any more.  Now games are getting to be the same way.  FPS’s?  You loved Halo!  How about Halo2?  Now Halo3?  Let’s mix it up with Rainbow 6: One through Vegas.  I’m sick of it.  It’s like buying the same goddamn chess set over and over again.  It’s still chess!  The play mechanic hasn’t changed if you’re using regular pieces or ones skinned to look like Star Wars figures.

I love gaming.  It’s been a hobby of mine for about 20 years but I’ve seen and played just about everything on the market in one form or another.  Seeing it recycled over and over again is just pissing me off and boring me.  Next week I’m going to purchase a Game Cube.  I know that Nintendo seems to be a bad offender when it comes to recycling plot devices.  If I have to rescue the princess one more time that bitch can just die in the castle.  However, I’m going to give it a shot.  Nintendo has done well supporting their system with fun games.  I need something to instill that wonder, that feeling of adventure and discovery again.  I’m hoping that Zelda: The Wind Waker will do it for me.  I’m excited about diving into games like Paper Mario and Battalion Wars.  We’ll see how it goes.

Wind Waker is a different look for Zelda, but I doubt it will wow you with originality. It is a fun game, though. I'll tell you that the new Zelda on Wii is boring me to death. The only difference is that I didn't have to don the red tunic to walk in the volcano. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door is very unique. It's a nice twist to your typical RPG. You may also want to find Odama at Toys 'R' Us, it was $10 on clearance and you'll find nothing like it. Despite the amount of flak the Gamecube took for "kiddie games," the Cube games are high quality. Eternal Darkness, both Metroids,Super Monkey Ball, Baten Kaitos (the plot won't wow you, but the gameplay is nice). I'd steer clear of Mario Sunshine. If you played Mario 64, which is still the better game of the two, you've played Sunshine. Just once I want to hear Toad admit to the truth: "I'm sorry, Mario! Your original gameplay is in another castle. Psych!"

man, i hear ya. but rb6 vegas, while it is still a franchise game, actually has a newer feel to gameplay. they perfected the cover system epic tried to do for gears. works seamlessly in rb6. did i think they could have done better? sure. is the plot line of the story mode old and rehashed? of course. but who cares about single player anymore? the real fun is online. as for the new zelda...i don't hate it, but i'm not salivating over playing it either. is a meh game. could take it or leave it.
