Many of you know that Cranefolder has been my best friend since high school. We've seen a ton of miles together and I'm proud to know him and to have been his friend for so long. I went through a lot both personally and professionally during my time in grad school and it meant so much to have him and his wife there on my graduation day. The room was packed for my talk but having my girlfriend, sister, brother in law, Cranefolder, and Mrs. Cranefolder there brought tears to my eyes and truly it meant a lot that they were able to make it. I wish my other close friends Ratbastard and Matt could have made it but Rat is busy wooing co-eds, which, believe me, I won't interrupt for anything. I would have liked to have my parents there but they were out of the country at the time. My Dad finally retired and is busying himself with golf at St. Andrews, so really...I can't exactly begrudge him of that.
It's been an awesome journey, enriched by all the friends I have made, many of them here. 2o2p.com helped keep me sane in some pretty dire times. Coming here and being able to cut loose with my buddies in my clans The Ateam RBN, OMM, and the GWG really helped me keep my shit together. There are so many posts and pics that kept me laughing through the day when my other experiments fell apart.
In October I will be moving to a new job to work on Parkinson's disease. I'm really excited about it. Neurological diseases are a tough nut to crack but I hope that I am able to contribute at least a small amount to a growing body of knowledge that will one day lead to a cure.
The "cock punch" thing that Cranefolder talked about started with the book "The Alphabet of Manliness" http://www.alphabetofmanliness.com/ One of my coworkers read it and recommended it to me, and from there on my coworker and I would cockpunch each other while doing our lab work...yeah science can be crazy at times. Anyway Crane read those sections and we took off from there with the email attachments. I landed the mother of all cockpunches at my defense as he said in his blog. I think I punched his dick off, it's somewhere in downtown Birmingham; I hope a hobo didn't pick it up and pawn it for crack money. At least he still has his balls, his wife keeps those safe for him
