Shared on Wed, 10/25/2006 - 23:40I have never had a blog before. Hell I haven't written anything that wasn't an estimate or lunch order in years and it will most likely show. Even though, what the hell. It's not like anyone is being made to read it.
So this is my first entry. I guess some basic info would be a good place to start. My name is Chris. I am 37 and married with two children. I live in Round Hill, Virginia about 65 miles West of Washington DC. It's a small town. You know the type, where everyone knows the Mayor and people meet at the small restaurant in the middle of town. 440 residents and counting. My wife and I moved here about 7 years ago. We wanted to be away from the "city" and all the traffic and people. We lived in McLean in a one bedroom apartment with our dog. It was ridiculous. People yelling, car alarms going off in the middle of the night and the annual rent increases that were so aggressive I thought we were buying the place. After notice of a pending increase I though, "shit we can own a house for that much!". So we started looking and a couple of months later moved into our 120 year old 1300 sq.ft. house on 1/2 acre in Round Hill. Well, seven years and a 2500 sq.ft. addition later the hustle we left in McLean is heading our way.
I did not go to college. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but I knew college was not a part of it. Lucky for me I had a little sense. I moved to DC at 18 and started working on cars. The only true passion I had at the time that was legal. One thing leads to another and I found myself the European specialist at a busy shop. I narrowed my scope to just Porsche and have not looked back since. Currently I am building and maintaining road racing cars as well as performing routine maintance on street cars.
I own three Porsches although one was recently totaled at Virginia International Raceway due to sudden rapid deceleration. I hit a wall at approx. 70 mph backwards. Yes it hurt but not physically as much as my ego. It was a stupid mistake but at high speed it only takes one to turn things bad in a hurry.
That is a good start and I need another beer.
