Having it all ways... (blogs)

I have always been facinated by the pull that women's blogs (mine included) seem to have. Do the women post more often? Are guys really that facinated with boobs? Am I really that interesting that somehow my dumb little blog about my homelife and the occasional blog about gaming deserves being in the top 15 blogs per month? Some blogs are consistently popular due to controversy, yet the authors seem to get upset when people give them the thumbs down.  But controversy is by it's nature, divisive. Division means that some people won't like what you have to say. People are allowed to express their opinion, and viola! Thumbs Down.  And then feelings get hurt.

The persona that we put forth in our blogs is just like a first impression that we have when meeting someone face to face. We get an impression, a picture of the person.  If the blogger keeps showing the same side, that impression only becomes deeper and deeper.  I believe at that point, the blogger is seen less like a real person, and more like a stereotype. Is this right? Well, if you only show one side of yourself, how can you blame us?

A Blogger can say all they want that they are in real life a different person, but what counts is the actions.  Want to convince people you are smarter, or what have you? You can't just proclaim to be smart, you have to prove it.  You can't just proclaim to be wordly, or sensitive, or cultural or whatever, you gotta show it. How do we do that? Through diverse posts and our blog content.

Does this mean that people will crucify you for some some bad English? nah. No one (really) cares about grammar. If they did, no one would read Ceasar's blog (me loves caesar: I tease him so) Nor would they read mine, you know: me: resident Queen of the typo and ignorant of this thing  called "rules of punctuation."

So. Want to change what people think of you? okay... do you really care? Do you really care what this community thinks of you? Great. Then start by changing your content. And stop telling me that you are like this or like that. Show me.

Hmm. *Rubs chin* A very insightful look at the 'blogging phenomenon' overall. You have definitely given me a three-course meal of food for thought to digest and ponder over as I embark on my own forays into the 'blogsphere'. I will think on this. -Judo

I've thought about quitting, finding a picture of a hot chick, and rejoining. Dastardette perhaps? I'm sure I would get 10 times the hits. But anything that bumps Soup out of the top slot is a good thing :)

I guess I read the women's blogs about as much as the men's. Not because of boobies (which I do admire!), but because often they write more interesting stuff. About home, relationships, kids, and their views on men. I prefer good spelling/grammar but that doesn't mean that poor grammatical/spelled blogs can't have meaningful, interesting subjects. Some of the rambling stuff, I lose interest in when I can no longer follow the thought processes (if any). Do I care what people think of me? Yes, I do. I care what people think of me in the real world just as much as the virtual world that I enjoy here.

I just kind of click the pictures at the top, especially if it's someone I know. I don't usually pay any attention to gender. I care what others think of me, here on 2o2p eneral forums, in my clan, on Live (not a single bad feedback BTW) and in real life. I'm a little socially anxious and paranoid, though. I always worry what others think, and if I get a thumbs down in my blog, I start wondering who's out to get me. :) I agree with you about proving who you are. You can TELL us whatever you want, but you're being judged on what you SAY. If you tell us about how many people you help all the time, then I won't see you as a kind and helpful person, but a braggart. I guess it's all in the way you say it. It's all in the presentation. Good post. You're so insightful. :)

You're in the top 15 because you post so many blogs.

Perhaps certain bloggers do post blogs that show all sides, but only get credited for the ones that show tits. Just saying, perhaps. :P

id say me and soup post just as much as durty and jcat and jeep, i was in second in most reads before durty joined by a large margin, then bam shes got 30k on me 30k! it took me 6 months to take my spot back from jeep chick and i think thats cause she slowed down on her blogs for like a month. so i for sure think it has more to do with the fact that the site is dominated by guy gamers and are like school girls when they see a female picture up on the blogs. there are some girl gamers blogs i love to read, like yours. others i could do without, but im sure a lot of people say that about mine. no matter what i post. here is an example, i could blog 2o2p wallpapers and get 50 views actual content for the site, a girl gamer could blog about digging her underwear out of her ass and get 500 views and 20 comments. i laugh it at now.
