Help! Need Boys Name

We can't agree on a boys name at all... So I need help... just trying to garner ideas.

Do you love or hate your own (male) name or love/hate a (male) name of someone you know?  What do you think about the name as a boys name vs a man's name vs the nickname? In the comments.... please be nice BUT give your own impression of the name that the person picked above you... and then add your own pick... an so on .  So we will get two opinions of a name in the comments.

Sean is looking at uber traditional names... like "William" "Douglas" "David"

I'm a bit odder...  My fave so far is Archer... but that's been vetoed. It's still a name... just not one that you find in the Queen's family tree...  I've also suggested stuff like Issac.

Really we are having trouble picking a traditional name. Sean thinks if we go "weird" for one name, we need a traditional backup (i.e. middle name)

Okay go! and thanks a ton!

This is easy. MacGyver. Pay homage to a great Canadian actor and hockey player :) Our last baby turned out to be a girl so I didn't get to use MacGyver - my wife was very happy. We have a Maxwell and a Holden for boys. We have a Rowan and a Layla (one of them had to be a stripper) for girls. Rowan could be a boys name also. Maxwell wishes we had named him Mathias - which is maybe a little too ethnic (considering our extreme whiteness) but was a name we were considering lol

One of my co-workers had a son recently. They named him Hunter. My 8-month old has a (much) more traditional name, chosen minutes after his first ultrasound by my 6yo daughter - Jacob

I think you're better off not getting too artsy or experimental for guys names..or at least they are. I think boys names are best when there are two versions of the same name that are both traditionally well-known. For example... Lucas........Luke David.........Dave Jacob........Jake The first ones being maybe a little more sensitive/sophisticated, then second more everyday regular guy. Then as they go through life they can choose how they like to be seen, kinda self-defining. Ok, so I'm supposed to critique the name given above my post, which is Wendel...Don't like it, but probably because it reminds me of a kid in school that nobody liked. The name I'll throw out there for critique is...hell, I'll just go with my own...Given name, Michael, but I've always gone by Mike.

I gotta say... I'm not a huge fan of traditional names, I have nieces named Elizabeth, Emily and a nephew named Matthew. My kids names are not traditional but they're not 'celebrity-was-smoking-something- type of names ;) Conner Daniel and Dallas Benjamin. Feel free to steal (if you guys even like them, that is!)

My nephew's name is "Marek Joseph." My sister in law is Czechoslovakian...not from there, but that's where her family tree comes from. Apparently, "Marek" is a traditional Czech name...at first I thought it was dorky...but now...It's cute!

When I was a kid, Ryan hadnt caught on yet. I hated having to take 5 sentences to explain my name. Hi my names Ryan. Hi Brian. No thats Ryan. I said Brian. No Ryan (slowly) without the "b". How do you spell that? R Y A N. Like Ryan Oniel or Ryans Hope. Ohhh. I went through that countless times growing up. and still do sometimes... Oh how I wished to have an easy name like Joe or Steve.

Think of a name that works when he's all grown up. My 1st born is: Kaden Jonathan-Alan (both grandpas names for his middle) Kade if he becomes a line-backer (sounds BIG) #2 born: Colin---or as some NON readers pronounce it COLON as in COLON Powell (stupid people) random names: Lee Burke Nick (I like the non-traditional names. I told my father in law "the John name stops here---one 2 many in the world already" (he wanted a John II)

Just remember to put yourself into a 10 year old frame of mind when picking and sound out everything that rhymes with your top picks looking for those words that kids will inevitably use to degrade another child would be my advice. ;)

@RyanFromVegas My surname is Ryan and that caused endless confusion when I lived in the states. People couldnt comprehend it wasnt my first name. Anyway if youre looking for Irish names what about (and these are spelt correctly): Conor, Ruaidhrí (Rory), Cian, Domhnaill (Donal)? There are some beautiful girls names like: Siobhán, Caoimhe, Caoilfhinn
