MR: Music Videos

I have my list, but I would like to hear from the peanut gallery: what do you think are the most significant music videos?

Other than the MR, I actually have a ton of stuff going on right now. Nothing I care to divulge at this moment, but I have a few irons in the fire. It's almost (but not quite) like being back at work. I can feel the rust from that side of my brain slough away. The creaking hurts my ears.

We tried to go to church this Sunday. Didn't go well at all. Erica.. well let's just say someone stole her. I mean they replaced her, but it's obviously not the same little girl. I mean MY Erica doesn't pitch fits at 9 in the AM. MY little girl is just a bundle of giggles, and definatly is NOT a screamer. We have named the new one Old Yeller.

Seriously she was full of yells today. I am trying to discipline her. "No, Erica. We don't yell." I say in my low "Mommy is not impressed" voice. She screams, waves her little hands around like she does when she doesn't want somehting you are trying ot give her.  All morning it was yelling. Yelling, not screaming, there is a difference.

The long and short of it is... how do you discipline a 1 year old? I mean the whole point of discipline is to teach them to do it for themselves. To give them the tools to learn, to grow. Punishement is the last resort.  But is she too young to learn?  I guess you keep at it.  Just like dealing with Timmies right? You keep at it and keep at it: show them how adults behave, tell them when something is over the line and maybe in a  few years, they'll be mature enough that the messages finally sink in.  Oh, that and take away their Xbox when they break the rules.

But the church thing is getting to me. I haven't been in ... well, let's jsut say it's been a long while. I guess we keep at it, and try every weekend until Erica can go without falling into her evil  alter ego. It will happen one day, it just didn't happen this weekend.  Any suggestions?

Hope everyone had a good weekend: joyous gaming to all!

One of my favs is "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys. Not sure if it revolutionized or changed anything, but it was hillarious. The Fat Boy Slim vids were pretty great as well.

1) A-Ha - Take On Me. While Thriller outdid it in theatrics, A-Ha outdid them and every one else in incorporating art. The cartoon art in this is so good, it was a decade ahead of its time. 2) GNR - Multiple - GNR took the vids on Use Your Illusion to a new level, making them in to epic videos. November Rain comes to mind, but you can't top Estranged. 3) Whitesnake - "Here I Go Again". Holy shit - sex sells? I can't think of one that predated this that took sexy to the level it did. 4) I saved the best for last. Michael Jackson. "Thriller". Long form. I'm pretty sure it's enough said.

Damn J-Cat. Every time I read your blog I get more nervous and worried sick about having a little girl. :)

A video that comes to mind is Def Leppard's "Rock of Ages." Storytelling had never been a part of the 3 minute music video until that point. Yes it's awful to watch now, but it led to some great videos like the ones mentioned for GnR above. And about the screaming in church, I still do that when ever my wife makes me go. lol
