What is the book that touched you the most and why?

I am an ... okay reader. I started this blog waaaaaay back when as a 50 book challenge: 50 books, one year which is a book a week plus 2 weeks off for reading vacation. Nevre made it. I was doing okay for a while. I tried to pick books that I wanted to read but never picked up. I remember reading 'Frankenstien" thinking "Right... romanitic literature of the 19th century... now I GET it..." Same with scarlet letter. I also read The Blind Side, maybe re-read moneyball at that time too... Some old SF that I had originally read in high school. But then Erica, you know... outgrew being a newborn and I suddenly found myself with much less time.

So I read art history. And lately going through baby name books.

One of my Fave book, but I haven't read it in a while is "A prayer for Owen Meany" excellent read. Man... it's a type of coming of age story, of two boys. One is very ordinary, and lost his mother at a young age, the other is very special. It's how they grew up, how their lives are intertwined and how they can't really separate the ties that bind. Been a LOoong while since I read it. I also love "Don't Bite the Sun" by Tanith Lee. It's about how a woman finds herself when she has to confront hardship in a society that experiences no hardship. Hate the ending though.

Again: find Art history fascinating... I like History and I like purty pictures. I'm really a simple girl.

i haven't read books in years. when i was young, it was comic books. the books in H.S. now most of what i read is technical stuff. yeah, i guess i'm boring. to answer your question, faborite book was Great Expectations.

I'm currently working my way through American Sphinx, a bio on Thomas Jefferson. Just finished the last Harry Potter book, though. Yeah, say what you want, but once you get sucked in on those you have to know what happens!

I don't really 'read' anymore. I read the internet all day long and that's 99% of my reading. I also spend 1/2 an hour or so when I go to bed reading The Week, Popular Science or Wired . But an actual novel? The only author i read is Dean Koontz and i usually bang out a book or two of his a year. I also have read the Gears of War books and like them both.

i read anything that grabs my attention. i average about two books a week. right now im rereading the ruins by scott smith.

I have to agree with Tank on the Dean Koontz thing. He is such an amazing author. I think I've read everything he's ever written...my favorite book by him is "From the Corner of His Eye". It's an amazing read. I can't say that any book has changed my life, really touched me, or anything like that. But I have read so much that it's kind of hard to say that. For background...I read nearly every book in my Middle School library (except the encyclopedias and things like that), in two years. I still average about 1-2 books a week..though they aren't always new reads anymore. I really like rereading books I love....the book I finished last night I've read 8 times, lol. :)

I wander the library and see what grabs me. Lately Ive been on a non-fiction streak. I read about money, computers, historty, physics, religion, whatever gets my attention. Ill swing back into novels after awhile im sure Ive also found books on cd or lectures on cd very efficient way to absorb. I can listen while I walk the dog for instance. As far as best books, thats a tough one.

I read all the time. It's pretty much a bedtime ritual for me too. It's mainly Fantasy with some Sci-fi, with a sprinkling of thrillers or action mixed in. I'd never do a 50 book in a year challenge. I love to read, I don't need to impose deadlines and such. Also, some of the fantasy books I read on 800-ish page beasts, I can't bang those out in a week, lol. I third Dead Koontz, particularly his older stuff. I don't really care for much of his newest stuff (say newest 10 books) except for the Odd Thomas books (which I think there are 3 now). I really loved Midnight, Phantoms, Lighting, Strangers (when you got past the first 1/3 or so), plus others I am probably forgetting.

I'm gonna 4th Koontz.... loved the odd thomas series, and really started reading him when I was a kid bored out of my mind visiting my mom during the summer. I picked up tons of koontz, clive barker, king, anne rice, etc. maybe that's what happened to me.... lots of twisted/different reading for a 12yr old. Now, I still read koontz, love the dexter series, and really dig dan brown, but one of my favs right now is any star wars book that was written by zahn. he's a tactician working in the world of SW! My bookshelves have a vast collection of books, that I really can't name them all. I agree with you in the fact that since my little one was born, and is now 3, not a lot of reading gets done, unless i'm travelling.

There are two books that have "touched my life," Ender's game by Orson Scott Card, and Armor by John Steakley. They both have similar plots in that they both wage humanity's war against an alien race. The best thing about these books to me was the dissection and inner workings of the heroes, lain open by the author for a different perspective of people and war. "Humanity"

Reading, reading, reading! I love reading! Fiction or non-fiction, I don't care! I enjoy anything but romance novels and old school westerns. Oddly enough, I am not a huge fan of sci-fi, but have enjoyed a few books in that genre. I am currently reading The Meaning of Everything - The Story of the Oxford English Dictionary by Simon Winchester. Probably considered a bit dry to some...okay, most people... :) I am surrounded by books in my house...they are my comfort food!

I'm a bit of a Sci-fi and Vonnegut nut. One of my favorite books has to be "Venus on the Half Shell" by Kilgore Trout. No joke, he's listed as the author.

pretty much anything by W.E.B. Griffin. I have been cruising through his books at about one every two weeks. He is a damn good author, especially if you like the military.
