So... Speaking of Cookies (Gestational Diabetes)

J-Cat

So... I had my Gestational Diabetes (GD) test today. Drink orange crush (or something like it) , wait an hour and they draw blood. Now, last time I CRUSHED the numbers: normal is a 70, GD is a 180... I got 270 or something like that. YEAH BITCH!

So... last time I was pregnant my blood turned into tasty, tasty syrup. Basically, when you are pregnant, your body kinda, sorta goes a smidge diabetic... after all Mommy can't use up ALL the sugar... baby needs some. It's all natural and good. Expect when your body goes nutbar and becomes more like honey than blood. And that was me.

Or rather that IS (probably) me. I had the test and I expect to fail spectacularily... again.

So what does that mean for J-Cat? That means that I basically eat right and exercise. And by eat right I mean I count every single carb that comes into my body. And by exercise I mean I walk 3 times a day. Sounds tough... but it's not really. Even with my numbers as crappy as they were last time, we managed to get my sugar under control so well  that the GD folks at the hospital basically told us to keep it up and not come back. It was a non-factor in the pregnancy. hurray!

So to celebrate the blood test, Sean is picking me up some ice cream from Dairy queen and that will be that until the end of August. No more sugar for me! Well... after tonight.

Really what you need to do is eat a high protein diet, lots of fiber and veggies. Cut out the starches and all refined sugars. Then you'll be ok.

My wife was diagnosed with GD as well. Not fun. I guess she (like most) expected to be able to "live it up" when she was pregnant. Instead, she could have gotten her meals from an old folks' home. NG

First no alcohol now no sugar...sometimes pregnancy can bite.

I guess that's good news, even though you've had to give up all the good dietary stuff in life. It's fortunate for everybody that it wasn't me that had to give up coffee during my wife's pregnancies. Somebody would've been injured.

I remember that glucose tolerance test. I almost threw that stuff up. It was nasty and I have a very sensitive stomach when I was preggers. It was weird though. I didn't have GD but now I am type 2 diabetic. I won't tell you what to do because I hate when people do it to me. I just hope all is well.
