Timmie doesn't stop being a Timmie, (s)he just eventially joins 2o2p

I am always amazed at how immature some people on this site can be.

Lately I've  heard and read about lots of clan drama, and about people just getting hurt by others on the site. I've seen mean posts on stranger's blogs that were not called for, I've seen nasty comments in the off topic thread. I've seen people give thumbs down to blogs that are just feel good blogs. The thumbs down for a feel good blog doesn't bother me, it's the fact that the writer is such a nice gal... and is sensitive to these things.  So why do it?

Most of the time the community is wonderful. We can argue about touchy subjects and still try to stay civil. I try, I don't do it all the time, but I try.  And I know that most people try to as well.  But again, lately, a few of my favorite people on the site have either left the site, left (or got the boot) their clan or both.

So: as a community or mature gamers, what do we do? Do we let Timmie ruin it for lots of us, or do we speak out?

And for those of you who like blog lite:

Erica is great... her latest trick is singing "the Lion Sleeps Tonight" and for Gatsu: I have the  video of her saying "Madness!" as in "Madness?! This is SPARTA!!!" In fact lately she says "Sparta". I'll get my husband to take it off the camera and post it on youtube soon.  I'll pm ya with a link.

for the most part 2o2p is a great place. even adults will have drama over what seems trivial.it usually works itself out and it will happen. i to have seen others get minus feedback for no reason i wish people would think a little before giving minus feed back on people, i know certain people will tend to blog less because of it. i ignore it and blog more. recently i have been getting it for every blog post, no matter what. ah well i guess. ill just keep blogging and one day they will grow up right? i figure if you dislike someones blog so much maybe you shouldnt read it . thumbs up to you jcat

I think the clan drama thing was blown out of proportion and uninformed to a large extent. It pisses me off that people in the blog I think you are referring to called someone a Timmy for doing something MANY other clans do on this site. It is stupid, people jump on a side based on half of the story and light up their torches. As for the thumbs up/down system, I agree some people do it out of spite despite the content but it is one of these things you have to take along with the good I guess.

I agree with you by the way, I think people (myself included) should grow up a little...I meant to add that

Sure there will always be the timmy that just happened to grow up age-wise. But I think for the most part if we just put differences aside and remembered we are here to game and socialize....not shit in each others cheerios, then things will get friendlier. Don't push people buttons just because you don't like them or what they post. Just leave it alone and go to another part of the forum. There are people here I don't like, but that doesn't mean we can't be civil.

A lot of that is because the site is growing bigger and bigger. My member number is like in the 500's somewhere, the site was pretty small and intimate back then. Now it's the size of a town in population and with that , many more personalities. It is sad in a way but it's also good that the site is growing. We're like at 13,000 members or something now? We've come a long way since i signed up.

I agree with tank. The biggest issue is more personalities. The best way the site can deal with this is to form more clans. At least with clan, you can create smaller areas of the site in which more like minded adults can game. The true fact is that this is not a mature gaming site. In fact when we started long ago our original motto was, "An immature gaming site for adults." I personally have always been fully aware of how the general public can act on the internet. With no accountably and no real way to ID someone, there will always be drama. Age has nothing to do with it. 2o2p serves as a place to meet other people with in your age bracket. People tend to forget age doesn't mean you are not an asshole. Just like real life, you have to weed out the people that you don't get along with. A web site cant do that for you. The real question is, have you made more gaming friends because of 2old2play then without it? Do you have a better time when you are playing these games because of it? If the answer is yes, then 2o2p is doing its job. If someone is an asshole on the forum, then you are in no way forced to listen to him. Thats what clan forums are for. ;)

Yes: I have met some fantastic people... I started on line gaming cause of 2o2p... I just want people to just think for a bit before you act like a total jackass... What do you accomplish, you only are (pardon the expression) shitting in your own bed. And there is a difference between immaturity and nastiness. Immaturity, ah, well I guess everyone takes longer to grow up. That being said, If you want to be immature within your own friends, then that is all good fun. Being nasty to strangers... grow the f@ck up.

oh: I also just wanted to say: I don't think that the "heads of state" here at 2o2p can really do much about the jackasses. It's not their job to be the police unless there are serious issues (sexual harassment, death threats... crap like that) That being said: how do you deal with bullies in RL? You stand up to them. So, if you see chit happening in a thread or in your clan... you can ask yourself this, do you walk away, or do you say something?

I was getting tired of online gaming with my original xbox until I found 2o2p. Yes I have ran into the intermittent ass hat here and there I am sure I have been one myself without knowing. I do it to my wife all the time. Its easy to just ignore someone who bothers you just like in real life. How about having a boxing ring at the Lan with a set of boxing gloves and all the ass hats can sock it out. I find this a lot at work where the person will send a flame e-mail but when its face to face he is as nice as pie. People have huge balls when sitting behind a keyboard .

While I agree with the technical definition of the site (everything Doodi and the others said), I have to admit that I did find myself somewhat confused at the behavior of some around here who turn around and preach the gospel of the "Timmy-free Oasis" that is 2o2p. Many adults come here thinking they're getting away from the *behavior* not just the *age*. I only speak for myself, but it's a big letdown when you encounter adults acting like bigger idiots than the "Timmies" everyone's trying to escape. Again, I'm also not suggesting it's something that happens a lot or that it's something that can be prevented by any means, but I do empathize with the J-cat in her original post. Since this comes up every other month or so, what about an article, sticky post, update in the registration/ToS, whatever to emphasize that the ONLY requirement here is that you're 25, and that it is possible to run into brain-dead jackasses? The Terms of Service do indicate that this is a "mature" site and that people should act in a civil manner (actually, it says "manor") but everyone should understand ahead of time that they're not necessarily joining a group of people who don't like teabagging and laughing - they're just joining a group of older people doing it - and the same trash might be talked, it's just lower-pitched. :) I also fully support the idea that this is what clans are for. That's the best way here to have a like-minded experience with the only cost being a slower pace (smaller group = less posts, interaction, etc.).

J-Cat, you are just tooo cool. I happen to know some of the stuff of which you speak and appreciate what you have written. It is true that the site is huge and there are some here that just need to grow up! But....thanks.
