Hey all,

Let me get right to the point. I don't see (or have ever saw) what the big friggin deal is about the GTA series.

Maybe its just me (evidently it is) but i dont want to run around and pick up hookers, deal drugs and all the other misdeeds that are involved. To me that just isnt fun.

Now before any of you decide what time my execution will be hear me out.

I know the GTA series was revolutionary in open world gameplay. I'll give it that much.

But when i play a game i want to enjoy it, ya know have fun.

Not live vicariously through my character.

Maybe its because i have grown older and have teenagers to think about and what kind of example that sets.

Call me a prude, call me what you will i just dont see the big deal. Saints Row was another ( Blatant GTA ripoff). Why is it fun to run around and pimp out your ho's. Don't see it.

So, if i lose my man card over this so be it. I'll stick to my survival horror and ultra violent FPS (at least there is a visible line between real and not) any day than a game that glorifies everything society is trying to fix.

I usually dont climb on my soapbox very often but with GTA just around the corner i had to get this off my chest.

See Ya,

Jon

If you're worried about the example it sets, then that's one thing--but to simplify the game down to running around pimping your ho's isn't exactly accurate. It seems that most people who describe it that way haven't played it. I am not trying to sway your decision, just saying that those of us who like these games aren't all wannabe gangbangers--some of us just like the gameplay.

Yes, there are the glorified things that make all the news. Hookers, drugs, and the like are only a small part of the game. But essentially, it's just like any other game. Being Condemned, Bioshock, Halo, Rock Band or any other game, You are doing things that you normally can not do. Either because of the impossiblity of it, or the consequences of it. Open world games just give you more options than a style of game that has a singular focus. Good god, I've agreed with MTK. I've now lost all self-respect.

As soon as my kids are out of pre-school and I have more time, I plan on joining a gang... so GTA is more like practice for me.
