I was in Hohenfells Germany in the motor pool getting ready to go home for the day. The NCO's came out and told us what had happened. We had some in our platoon from NY and everyone was ok from our group. I lived off post so they sent everyone home right then in hopes of getting out before a post lockdown. We went home and when I came in the next day, everythig had changed. Getting on to post normally took a coule minutes but we showed up early just in case it took longer. I got there at 4 in the morning and got on to post and into work at 11. this continued for about 6 months. Then the German government decided we had helped them enough and it was their turn to help us and they took over gaurdig out gate. On September 12 we had a very long day. I was in a specialty platoon of Infantry (1 of 2 in Europe) so we spent all day getting our trucks in perfect order and our weapons checked and ready to go. Luckily we didn't have to go anywhere. This year marks 10 years I've been in the military and i wouldnt change it for anything. I've spent 5 years over seas missing holidays with my family and to me it is worth every second away. The only thing this day has changed in my life is I've been to the Middle East now once, and I am hoping to go back again soon.
