Motorcycle Accident

Unfortunately one of my best friends here in San Diego was in a horrific motorcycle accident yesterday morning & is being treated for serious injuries at UCSD Medical.
For those of you who know anything of the military, he was on a late watch the previous night not getting off until 2am. He had work the next morning at 7am but didn't wake up until 8. He left the house in a rush on his bike & was speeding in excess of 90mph down a main street when a car pulled out in front & his motorcycle t-boned it.

Press Release:

SAN DIEGO: A 28-year-old sailor was seriously injured yesterday during a high-speed motorcycle crash on Rosecrans Street near Liberty Station.

The crash was reported at 8:30 a.m. near Womble Road, authorities said.

The sailor had been riding a Ninja motorcycle at more than 90 mph south on Rosecrans when a BMW sedan pulled out in front of him, police Sgt. Jeff Fellows said.

The motorcycle struck the front of the car, and the sailor was thrown 100 feet through the air, hitting trees and finally the road, Fellows said.

He was being treated at a San Diego hospital for a broken leg & internal injuries, fire department spokesman Maurice Luque said. The BMW driver was not injured.

The speedometer on the motorcycle was found to be "frozen" at 92 mph - its apparent speed at the time of the collision, Fellows said.

Please don't comment about how he shouldn't have been speeding. I know this already. He knows this the hard way.

When his bike struck the car, his right femur was immediately broke in two & burst through the skin at top & bottom. When he hit the tree & then the concrete, his thumb & 4 ribs were broken, a rib punctured a lung collapsing it, both knees were completely torn apart and late last night, the doctor told his wife & I that he'll be wheelchair & hospital bound for at least two months.

Thank you for your thoughts & prayers.

As a fellow motorcycle rider I am painfully aware how easy it is to go fast and have things go bad very quickly. Glad to hear he lived, hope he has a quick and full recovery.

My prayers are with him. I have many friends who ride, and one who just recently got out of his casts from his accident, so I wish him the best of luck.

Best wishes for your friend and his family. As a rider you really hate to hear these kinds of stories. Hope your friend recovers soon.
