Trust Is No longer good anymore it seems

I am a small contractor here the beutiful Down East Maine area...You think that being from a small town that people in our line of work would respect each other...I recently ran into this so called " Contractor" that told me his back was blown out and that he could not do anymore roofs, so i looked at the job's and decided to take them..Well I finsihed relativley quick, then was going to jump onto the next job when the guy calls up and leaves a very rude message about the mess i made..So i call him up and ask him what the hell he was talking about then he tells me i left shingles on the ground, which he told me he was going to pick up...I even left my tarps there for himto make it easier for him...well then he cools down after a bit when i told him what we agreed on...So then ofcoarse we talk about money and he tells me that hell get the check in a few days ( homeowner lives in florida) So I think ok he is good for the money...I start the second job which is a night mare to begin with, hip's and valley's galore..We get intact agian about the money a few WEEK"S later and he hands me half of the fucking money and tells me thats all he could get for now!!!But i am half way threw this other job and cant just leave it undone( not my way of work) so i tell him i want more money down for this job and he comes threw with it..I finish the job and decide to call him and tell him that I'm done and he was all excited about it, I mmade sure i told him that if you get a dumpster there I will clean the shings up at no extra charge...So i met up with for some money and he gives me just 400$ adn that isnt even the half of qwhat i charge...then tells me the homeowner is holding money back to We get the shingles of the groung, ok No Problem..he said he would have a dumpster there in a couple days...guess what it has been over4 months and i havent recived a phone call.....So now i dont know what to do , i never wrote up a contract with this asshole and i cant find him anywhere...Does anyone know what i can do to get my money out this asswipe...I would love to know...thnak you for reading
