Dad Spam:

Those three Fannie Mae executives that walked away with millions in golden parachute money.... wond what became of them??

FRANKLIN RAINES? Raines works for the Obama Campaign as Chief Economic Advisor
TIM HOWARD?  Howard is also a Chief Economic Advisor to Obama
JIM JOHNSON?  Johnson hired as a Senior Obama Finance Advisor and was selected to run Obama's Vice Presidential Search Committee

----------------------------

A friend of mine called us late late night this week with the oddest question:  Are soldiers allowed to vote?

Of course they are!  My husband explained the process of absentee ballots.

Apparently out of the 19 people having this discussion, my friend was the only one that questioned it.  Everyone else assumed that they were not allowed to vote - one person said, "like felons... you can't let soldiers vote!"

/me shaking head

I worry about our future more than ever now.  These people weren't high schoolers, or druggies, or washouts.  These are my yuppie friends.  College graduates, young professionals.

It would spook me to if I learned my dad didn't really check any facts before forwarding e-mails.

My first time voting was on an absentee ballot in Korea which is where I was when I turned 21 (walked guard duty on my birthday)! Don't worry though, those insightful, knowledgeable, yuppie friends of your will use that talent to vote for the right folks. Just you wait and see.

The kind of stuff circulating the internet about both sides of this race is so wild - I think it is causing more harm than good to have access to so much info. My friends that consider themselves the most informed - are the least informed. :(

I was at Western Washington University one day and overheard "College Educated" faculty saying that they know for a fact that soldiers are NOT allowed to get married. I just laughed and showed them my wedding ring.

JeepChick, Fannie and Freddie lobby everyone in Congress and then some. Just ask Rick Davis, McCain's campaign manger. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/22/us/politics/22mccain.html Also Raines and Obama deny those allegations against them. Don't know about the others to tell you the truth.

There's something to be said about disallowing the military to vote, with a view to the fact that soldiers are defacto the protectors of a nation. A stake in the political well-being of a nation should therefore be moot. I always found it a bit weird that I could vote while being in the service, but to be barred from voting is a violation of a basic right and duty. And so, everybody's vote is valid.

Franklin Delano Raines (born January 14, 1949 in Seattle, Washington) is the former chairman and chief executive officer of the Federal National Mortgage Association, commonly known as Fannie Mae, who served as White House budget director under President Bill Clinton. Hmmmm............

I'd prefer to ask Obama himself since he received the 2nd most amount of campaign contributions of anyone in Congress. http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/update-fannie-mae-and-freddie.html

Somebody better tell Austin Goolsbee and Jason Furman that they have been replaced as Obama's economic advisors.

Everybody is acting like having these people as advisors is big news. You all forget, even when we are in an energy crisis, that the author of the Bush energy plan for the last 8 years was Ken Lay, disgraced former chairman of Enron, and that he wrote the damn thing from his own office in the White House, even though he worked for a private company. If you're going to attack politicians for having advisors like this, at least be honest about it. it's hypocritical an idiotic to rail on Clinton and Obama without acknowledging that McCain and Bush are just as bad, if not worse.
