Day5: I smell CHANGE

Blame it on Obama, but CHANGE is in the air of the Jeep household.

I think that by changing one thing.. it has spurred a great deal of other things.

I am now 5 days smoke free. This weekend I conquered my daughter's 4th birthday party (Halo Laser Tag Tea Party), drinking with my friends on saturday evening, and a major clanmates meltdown last night. All without want of a smoke. All without thinking of a smoke.

My two urges were habit related - one when I was getting ready for practice Friday evening, I always smoke at the balcony while we fill up the lobby. I walked toward the door, reached in my purse for smokes... and realized what I was doing. lol. The second one was Sunday morning... hubby made coffee and I automatically grabbed a cup and headed to the balcony...

The meds do make me ADD, OCD and other acronyms. But the pictures are straight, and I have a new appreciation for all the little ladybugs in my house. :)

So this Change has occurred. and now more amazing things are happening.

1. My kids have managed to keep their rooms clean for a week straight. Without me asking, begging, or bribing them to keep it clean. It was nice to have a weekend without being knee deep in stuffed teddy bears and left over cereal.

2. Kids are managing their laundry. Well, my son is doing the bulk of it. Sunday morning I woke up to the sound of my son lugging his hamper downstairs and dumping it into the washer. He had brought his sister's clothes as well. They both have been putting them in the hamper.. not on the floor. Better than I do! :)

3. The dogs are magically being fed, watered and put out in the mornings. All week... I thought it was hubby, hubby thought it was me. Saturday morning the culprit was caught. My son is not only getting himself dressed in the morning for school, he has started letting the dogs out of the crate, feeding them then putting them outside for the day. He even takessome time to play with them a bit. He said he really enjoys it.

4. My brother-in-law has quit smoking as well.

5. My husband's bank job is still very shaky. He still has it... but there is no guarantee that he won't lose it. The military has some things in the works for him. More money, and on track for his flight status. So good news all around!

I consider these to be little perks to quitting smoking. They might have happened anyways, but I don't think I would have appreciated them as much. It's tough to make a change, to start or stop something. I am really proud of my kids, and my family. Alright.. I'll quit being sappy.

You mean there's something in Goldsboro? I lived there for 6 months and HATED every minute of it. Congrats on the quitting.......like you, it's been a habit of doing it before and after things more so than the nicotine aspect of it. Driving long distances is still a killer for me. lol MJ

I think it's great that you've quit smoking. Just a question here, do you think the kids fell in line because you've quit smoking? Or, could it be your mood during the "quitting" ordeal? I'm sure you've probably been a bit more on edge. Perhaps the kids fear the "wrath of mom" a little more now. "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU WANT SOMETHING TO DRINK WITH DINNER?!!!" ; )

Congrats and keep your resolve firm! Remember that drinking is the biggest enemy of quitters.
