This is bullshit.
The man made it very very clear that he wanted the award to reflect that he got into the Hall of Fame not because of his race, but on the merit of his play. He didn't want any reference to his race put on the plaque.
Now they are going back against a dead man's wishes. A man who I totally agree with. He was there because he was good enough. By adding the byline about his race, it makes it seem like Affirmitive Action.
I realize he was a pioneer. I realize he broke barriers. But the man said specifically when he was given the award that he DID NOT WANT any reference to his race on it.
Why would we go against his wishes?
I know that a lot of you are major sports buffs, I am not obviously. Maybe you could shed some light on this.
