Yesterday was a bright 87 degrees outside. Slight breeze, low humidity. With the July 4th weekend coming up - camping all weekend - and the rain we have had lately - the lawn was begging for a trim.
In the front yard I battled with a large anthill. I enjoyed running over them and spraying them all over the yard more than I should have. I pushed instead of ducking a low branch in the front yard, and dislodged a bird's nest with a baby bird in it. It couldn't fly, but it could hop like mad and glare at me. It even seemed to growl. Todd and I ran all over the yard trying to catch it. Everytime I would get close, all I could think of was that birds have hollow bones, and I was terrified of breaking them! Eventually I pulled the nest out of the tree, he hopped right into it - and I set it back up. Mom and Dad bird were flipping out on the roof the whole time. LOL - flipping birds at me if you will.
The backyard is like a racetrack - big hill, large flat area at the bottom - but lots of obstacles. Most people would take the time to move these out of the way before mowing. Not me. I lasso them! I grab chairs and tables and slides and pull them out of the uncut areas, into the cut areas. My daughter loves to watch me do this. It's like a rodeo. Me racing on the mower, grabbing things willy nilly and leaning way back to pull them around - the whole time going full throttle. I did run over what appeared to be a large dog bone that made a helluva noise, and the took out a small tree we had planted a few years back that had died. But overall - job well done.
Now I just need to fix my weedeater - a bolt broke off of the carburator (sp?) and it went from LOUD as hell, to not working at all. Grrr...
