Bad Company 2 hotter on PC than console...

An interesting news item linked today is that more folks are playing BC2 on the PC than the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined. What that ultimately says about the success or longevity of BC2 is still up in the air. No numbers in the linked article, but it makes me wonder whether Bad Company 2 can beat the odds and become a smash hit on the PC. Game sales today are almost all on the consoles. Short of a Starcraft, World of Warcraft, or Diablo-type phenom, the money is in console sales.
I'm not switching over just yet. I think the deciding factor will be what the DLC for MW2 this month or next turns out to be. If it's a glitch-laden mess, I'll probably rage-quit the series and bunker up till the rebooted Medal of Honor and/or Call of Duty: Banging Saigon Sally come out.
My disenchantment with dealing with pre-pubescent douchebags hasn't abated. I wish there was an senior citizen playlist or something so I wouldn't have to deal with this:

IT's not really that surprising, Battlefield has a lot of success on the PC and many people consider it to be a PC title first, console second. But you're right, can it really survive without changing people's minds. The future of PC gaming has been in question for a long time. Likewise diablo and starcraft are PC only games and they'll probably sell millions of copies and that'll be fine excluding it from consoles. I guess if a game sells 1 million copies, it's turned a nice profit and as long as they can do that just in PC sales, there's not really any need to worry about selling on consoles.

@ImMrPete You're right. I forgot about that. But most of the gaming publishers do think that way.

@TANK I forgot about that, too. My first exposure to the Battlefield series came after I made the (financial) move over to consoles, the flip side of my experience with CoD, which I learnt on the PC first.

To say that most game sales are primarily on the console isn't exactly correct. The NDP doesn't track game sales sold on the PC via digital distribution(Steam, GFWL, D2D, GoG, and others). This is how most PC gamers get their games. I have not purchased a PC game at the store in over 3 years. Anyways, Steam doesn't release sales numbers, so we really have no idea how much is actually being sold. The only thing Valve will say is that it sold "Very, very well".
