A few players were using the mic for something other than bitching in the lobby or auditioning for American Idol, which was a pleasant surprise. A few guys co-operated, calling out where the enemy was, which was also a pleasant surprise. What was neither a surprise nor pleasant was that on Ambush, one of the players on our team was sandbagging, i.e., playing for the enemy team. This player, whose gamertag has happily fallen off my recent player list, but we'll refer to him and his buddies as Pro Douchebag and The Three Douches, respectively , was running around shooting our claymores and "accidentally" team-killing. We got our asses kicked bad, but we hung in there and didn't quit. On the next match on District, Pro Douchebag was on the Marines with his mates, while we were OpFor. Right away, we locked down the OpFor spawn (from white panel truck down to the corner with the overturned wooden wagon). And we held it hard. Two other guys on our team were using their headset, making 5 out of 6 with ears on, and it really made a difference. We were able to warn each other about enemy positions and movements. About halfway through the match, the Three Douches quit, along with everyone else on the Marine team, and the enemy forfeit message popped up. (What does it say about douches who only stick with a match when they're winning, heh?)
Suprisingly, the Marine team was reinforced quickly, and the match continued... Unsurprisingly, when scrolling through the recent player list, we found that Pro Douchebag was on the friends list of the other two douches... Months back, we'd had a similar, tho less egregious example, on Bog. We were OpFor, and one of our guys was literally standing out in the open while the Marines played around him. The Marines were running right past him and shooting around him to kill other OpFor players. The only time he was killed was when he died in a friendly airstrike. Now, you might say, maybe he was away from the controller or timed out. But he had to have been on long enough to select a class, or he'd have been autokicked for inactivity. In the next match, he was on the enemy team with his buddies and kicking ass. It's a low grade brand of douchebaggery, but douchebaggery nonetheless.
In today's CoD forum, there was an interesting thread that MW2's Domination playlist prohibits private party chat. Given our experiences with sandbaggers, I say, good. The fewer the opportunities for douchebaggery, the better.
