This story was based on the greatest moment for me ever in MMORPG history. It happened at City of Heroes. I took the moment and fleshed it out into a story. It's not the best writing, but enjoy it anyway.
My commlink flashed, it was our contact. Her voice was quicky and to the point.
"You've got 30 minutes to complete the mission. You'd better hurry"
The commlink shut off just as quick as it had been turned on. I looked at my other teammates, whose faces held disbelief and doubt.
"There's no way we can do this"
"No way at all, it's too far"
"I didn't sign up for this" They all complained about the bad aspects of this mission. Even I had my own doubts.
"Quiet, everyone. You heard the lady....we've got 30 minutes...let's get going" I tugged at my hood slighty and adjusted my electronic GPS to point the way. Me and my team were off.
Around here, superhero's are a dime a dozen. So many heros come out of the woodwork everyday that it's not a surprise to see a rookie run by you follwed by a seasoned veteran the next second. This city needs it, so that's why we're here. I'm one of a million...but that doesn't mean I'm not important.
My team....I just met them several hours ago. We had begun to take down every visible crook and bad guy we could see, when we were told about this mission.
Two Rival gangs...both thirsty for blood and possessing a reckless abandon for life, had both laid claim to a factory and warehouse facility. The war these two gangs were intent on causing could spell disaster for the section of this city. It was our job to stop them. Explosives had been laid inside the compound that one rival gang was not aware of.
They were set to go off in 30 minutes. Our job was to stop it.
We ran as hard as we could through especially rough terrains and through the winding mazelike alleyways of the city. Hoping to reach our destination within time. It was not proving well, while we were all quite adept heros, none of us possessed superhuman transportation powers. No one could fly, or run extremely fast, or even teleport....not their teammates at least. We had to run on foot.
As the seconds ticked by, the anticipation in my heart grew more and more....even if we get there soon...will we be able to stop the bombs from going off?
We finally arrived at our destination, out of breath but with a determination to solve this mission. I looked at our timer:
15 minutes.
I looked at my teammates, we all began to scope out the building. It was a massive two story complex, as big as you would expect a factory to be. It was practically impossible to be able to scour the entire building in 15 minutes.
But we decided we were gonna try.
I looked upon one of my teammates, he smiled knowingly and brandished a pair of intimidating looking claws that shimmered in the sunlight.
"We go in as a group, we come out as a group. Stay together" I said in a soft tone. We were walking out of this mission alive....and successful.
I opened the door to the factory and we walked in.
