Woot! WiiWare has hit the market. I could not be more excited. I went ahead and d/l'ed a few games (after I cleaned off my Wii memory) to check em out. Here's my thoughts:

The WiiWare service seems to very nice. The games are a decent size, they take up anywhere between 100 and 145 blocks. The standard size for an n64 game from the virtual console. They get their own channel spot on the Wii main menu. Prices are ranging from 5 to 15 dollars.

The two games I d/l'ed was Pop and Defend the Castle. They're both super fun. Defend the Castle is apparently a rehash of a very popular flash game, You have a castle that you must defend from oncoming hordes of paper plate masked bad guys. You pick them up with the Wiimote and fling them high into the sky, causing terminal velocity. As the game goes on, they get faster and more deadly, and you get upgrades for your castle. Such as Archery Turrets, Bomb plants and a "pit of conversion" to turn your opponents into willing allies. Very fun game, if not slightly repetitive. The "cheaply made" graphics are really fun to look at, and the bad sound effects are awesome.

Pop is addictive. End of story. I tried to find a game to compare it to, but really can't think of one. There are 4 different colored bubbles on screen, and you point and poke (giggidy) with the wiimote (hit the a button, don't lunge forward) the bubbles to get points. If you poke the same color bubble several times in a row, you get bonus points and multipliers and all that jazz. It's really a simple game but very fun. You can do 4 player multiplayer on the screen, which is really nice. You can also share your scores on the Wifi Connection, comparing yourself to others. I am currently ranked #535 out of...not sure how many.

I'm glad WiiWare is here, because it means this game is coming

So freakin sweet! Check out wiiware if you get a chance, it's pretty fun.
