Megan, as most of you know, has an extremely rare and strange disease. And yet, I was absolutely taken with her from the first moment I saw her. Megan's favorite beverage is Gatorade (Orange if I remember correctly) and she drank it through most of the weekend - Jim and Stacy explained that it kind of helps balance her out when she goes through tired spats.
On Saturday night, about a dozen of us OMM folk (including Megan and company) went to Chili's for dinner and of course we forgot the the Gatorade at the hotel. They tried lemonade, juice, water, but Megan knew it wasn't her favorite and she rejected them one and all. As dinner drew on, Megan got a little testy at times. As kids her age frequently do when they're not happy, she yelled a little bit as if to get our attention that she wasn't happy.
Now, here's the amazing part. Every time Megan would start to get a little bit out of hand, Stacy would take both of her hands around the back of Megan's head, pull her face to within inches of Megan's face and talk or sing very softly. The look on Megan's face was enough to make me choke up. This look of wonder and awe fell across Megan's face as she looked into her mother's eyes, and she fell completely silent, no matter how stirred up she had been just a moment before.
And I thought to myself, "Wow, that is the power of a mother."
Jim and Stacy, I hope you guys know what an inspiration you guys are to us parents.
