Sports Superstition

I have a confession to make. I am a Cubs fan. And when you're a Cubs fan, you believe in all kids of crazy things. For example, I don't watch Cubs games live because when I do, they inevitably lose.

When I was 9 years old watching Game 5 of the 1984 NLCS, I remember thinking that if I could just concentrate hard enough, I could make the Cubs win that game. That somehow I could influence the action on the field and change the outcome of the game. Let's just say I concentrated so hard I had a pretty good welt on my forehead when the game was over.

My coworker started out the year 0-7 attending Cubs games, but since has rolled off about 3 or 4 straight wins. So going into this weekend, I and my fellow Cub fans are trying to figure out what combination of superstitions will pull this thing out for the Cubbies. I was 3-0 wearing my brand new Cubs cap but am now 3-1. Maybe it only works when they are at home.

It's figuring out these little mysteries of Sports faith that make being a fan so much fun or so painful.

Go Cubs.

Why do the players even bother to take the field? It sounds like you guys decide the outcome. ;)

It's true, I don't go to the Stadium to watch my favorite team because they always lose when I go. Not a big fan of baseball though. :)

Gee, that's funny. The Colts just win no matter what I do. :)

"For example, I don't watch Cubs games live because when I do, they inevitably lose." I do the same thing. I'm a hardcore Tennessee Titans/ Atlanta Braves fan. But, I don't watch a lot of games, because when I do....a loss ensues. :(

my husband practised good luck feung shui: he builds up luck by sitting in a certain place, his good luck bag of salt and vinegar chips are in a certain place, the lights on or off, etc. If the luck isn't flowing he will change positions. We didn't watch playoff hockey in the same room for years. In fact we had an understanding: he bought me 2 books per playoff round. He's lucky he found me!
